The UQ School of Education are thrilled to welcome Professor Martin Mills as our guest speaker for the 2026 Carolyn D. Baker Annual Memorial Lecture.

Professor Mills is a Research Professor in the School of Education at QUT. His work has principally focussed on social justice issues in education. These areas have included: teachers’ work and pedagogical practice, alternative education, and gender and education.

Professor Mills will be presenting on the topic 'Schooling in a volatile, unpredictable, complex, ambiguous (VUCA) world: A set of provocations'. All are welcome to attend however registrations are essential.

Join us for the 2026 Lloyd Davis Public Lecture, with visiting Fellow, Professor Maddalena Pennacchia who will present on 'Music in Shakespeare's Rome'.

Maddalena Pennacchia is Full Professor of English Literature at Roma Tre University (Italy). Her research focuses on Shakespeare, particularly the Roman plays, intermediality and adaptation, applied Shakespeare, and more recently sound studies and Practice as Research. Enrolments are now open for the Institute of Modern Languages High School Summer Enrichment Program!

This multi-day program is open to students in year 7-12 and offered in: French, German, Japanese or Spanish.

Classes are available online or on campus and run from 11-15 January 2027.

If you’re working with students interested in learning a new language or students who are keen on increasing their proficiency and fluency, now is a great time to encourage them to enrol.
