NSW universities are making their mark globally 🌏

In the latest QS World University Rankings, UNSW has been named Australia’s top university, ranked #19 in the world.

Across the state, our institutions continue to perform strongly, with the University of Sydney in the top 50, UTS: University of Technology Sydney in the top 100, and Macquarie University and the UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia in the top 200.

It’s a powerful reflection of NSW’s standing as a global leader in education and innovation 👏

This year, the Awards have been refreshed with a stronger focus on real-world outcomes and evidence, and clearer recognition of research contribution and community impact (including separate assessment for regional and Sydney metro impact).

Over the past two weeks, we were proud to have been part of two incredible International Student Welcome Events, hosted by the City of Sydney and the City of Newcastle.

Bringing together culture, community and connection, these events helped students make new friends, experience their new cities, and connect with the services that support life and study in NSW.

With 1,000+ international students joining across both events, it was a fantastic reminder of the energy and diversity students bring to our communities.

Welcome to NSW! We’re so glad you’re here.

As we approach the end of the year and begin the countdown to 2026, the Study NSW team has been reflecting on all the great achievements from 2025.

We’ve welcomed over 12,000 international students at the Sydney Airport Welcome Desk, celebrated volunteers with 30+ hours of service at the Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, launched a new accommodation quiz to match students to their ideal accommodation type, and supported the Lord Mayor’s Welcome events in Sydney and Newcastle to welcome international students to NSW.

With over 300,000 international students in NSW, we’re proud to support you on your study journey towards your future global career.

From all of us in the Study NSW team, we wish you a relaxing break and holiday season filled with warmth and happiness. We encourage you to take this time to explore NSW and celebrate with your loved ones.

The Study NSW team will be offline during the holidays, returning 12 January. If you have any questions in the meantime, our website has plenty of resources to assist https://www.study.nsw.gov.au/
