Lachlan Sibir was encouraged to apply for Aurora Education Foundation's US Study Tour through the University's Gadigal Centre. The program took him to Boston, Tucson and New York, including a class at Harvard, and a visit to the University of Arizona that changed how he thought about his own future, from just observing to genuinely considering a Master's in the US. Now back in Sydney teaching, he's exploring postgraduate study with Aurora's support and encourages other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to apply.

Stories like Lachlan's are why we've renewed our partnership with Aurora for another three years - expanding paid internships from 10 to 45, adding 6 places on international study tours, and creating 12 paid mentor roles for current students.

For over 50 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff, alumni, academics and community members have shaped the story of the University of Sydney.

To celebrate this year’s NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, we’ve brought together 50 faces from our community to reflect on the moments, memories and people that have inspired them along the way.

Students are at the heart of everything we do, and their stories remind us that our history continues to be written by every new generation who walks through our doors.

Meet some of the incredible students helping shape the next chapter as they share reflections on this years theme.
