Congratulations to Sydney Conservatorium alumni Buddy Lovett

Congratulations to Barker Alumni Buddy Lovett (Class of 2019), named a semi-finalist in the ABC Young Performers Awards 2026.

Now Associate Principal Timpani with Orchestra Victoria, Buddy’s remarkable journey, from the Sydney Conservatorium to leading roles with Australia’s top orchestras, continues to inspire.

We wish him all the best for his semi-final performance in Melbourne on Thursday 13 August. 🎶

In Sydney we've been treated to some excellent percussion focussed concerts recently-
Rebecca Lagos performing "When the Clock Strikes Me" by Nigel Westlake with Sydney Symphony, senior percussion student Grace Lee performing one of the soloist parts in Viet Cuong's "Vital Sines" Concerto for Sextet and Wind Ensemble, and more recently Kevin Man performing Catherine Likhuta's "Storm Chasers" Concerto for Timpani and Wind Symphony, both performed these works with our very own Sydney Conservatorium Wind Symphony, conducted by Stephen Williams.

Our next program is Thursday 28 May at 7pm in Music Workshop, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, The University of Sydney when the Percussion department presents its annual Marimba Concert, featuring solo and ensemble works for marimba.
