CALL FOR AGENDA ITEMS - UNSW Law Student Rep Meeting with Faculty (9 February 2022)

Dear UNSW Law Student Community,

Happy New Year and we hope you have all been able to have a safe and enjoyable summer break!

The Reps will be making a more formal ‘Start of Term’ statement at the beginning of Week 1 to welcome our new students to UNSW Law and to outline our goals for the year.

However, we want to make returning students aware that the Reps will be having a meeting with the faculty this Wednesday 9 February 2022. This meeting will provide a fantastic opportunity for the Reps to ask questions on behalf of students about how T1 will operate and allow us to raise any concerns students may have.

We understand that Moodle pages should be released to students on Monday and this will allow everyone to have a better understanding of what their term will look like. We want to provide everyone with as much time as possible to review their Moodle pages and take the time to send through any questions or concerns they may have to the Reps prior to our meeting. As a result, we will be accepting any agenda items that you would like us to raise at the meeting until 6:00pm on Tuesday.

You can send through an agenda item via one of the communication channels listed on our page. Please remember that all matters raised with the faculty are done so anonymously. All personal matters should be raised with your Course Convenor or Lecturer.

We look forward to 2022 hopefully being a year with minimal disruption and hopefully a return to the normal university lifestyle we know and love. The Reps cannot wait to be back on campus and to start chatting with students face to face again soon.

Enjoy O Week/the last week of the holidays!

Kind regards,
UNSW Law Student Reps.

CALL FOR AGENDA ITEMS AND UPDATE REGARDING ENROLMENT APPOINTMENTS:

Dear UNSW Law & Justice student community,

We hope you are all well and have had a great start to Term 3!

Next Wednesday, the Reps will be having one of their regular meetings with Faculty. If you have any issues which you would like to have addressed at the meeting, please feel free to send a message to one of the Reps. We raise all issues with Faculty anonymously and as always, we will provide a summary after the meeting of the matters discussed.

Additionally, during our meeting with Faculty over the holidays regarding elective enrolment issues, we also raised our concerns that some students were receiving later enrolment appointments compared to the rest of their cohort which contributed to these students having fewer enrolment options compared to their peers once they were able to enrol.

Faculty came back to us and informed us that enrolment appointments are issued based on the number of units of credit (UOC’s) students have completed but noticed that Internal Program Transfer (IPT) students were accidentally receiving later appointments due to their pre-transfer UOC’s no longer being recognised. Faculty informed us today that they have gone through the list of current IPT transfer students and ensured that these students (who have the same projected law progression as the rest of their peers) now have the same enrolment appointment time as the rest of their cohort. If this is not the case, Faculty have asked impacted students to call Student Services to ensure they are given the correct time.

If you are having any issues with Student Services regarding this matter, please inform one of the reps. We will be able to assist you in getting the issue rectified.

Despite Uni being online for the remainder of the term, the incoming end of lockdown suggests a return to everyone being back together on campus again is not too far away!! We look forward to seeing you all again soon, but in the meantime, we hope you all stay safe and have a great term!

Kind regards,
UNSW Law Student Representatives

SUMMARY OF ELECTIVE ENROLMENT ISSUES MEETING WITH FACULTY:

Good evening everyone,

Please see attached our detailed summary of the matters discussed at the Rep’s meeting with Faculty today regarding the current elective enrolment situation.

The summary contains information about what has caused the problem, what is being done to rectify the issues, as well as information about course registration dates and the myUNSW waitlist function (these last two items have relevance for students in ALL years - not just those doing electives).

We sincerely apologise for the length of the summary, but this is quite a complex situation and we wanted to provide you with as much information and detail as possible.

The Reps understand that some students may be rightfully disappointed with the outcome but we are going to continue working hard to ensure as many students as possible gain access to an elective course in T3 2021. Our discussions with Faculty do not end after this meeting. We will continue updating the Faculty about your circumstances and pressing for more places to be opened in elective courses so please keep us informed about your circumstances.

Thank you for your patience whilst we have obtained this information. Apologies once again for the length of the summary.

Please feel free to contact us or make a comment on this post if you have any questions about any of the information that we have provided.

UPDATE ON ELECTIVE ENROLMENT ISSUES

Good evening everyone,

We hope you are all safe and well!

Firstly, thank you to all of the students who provided us with further information about their current elective enrolment issues. We ended up receiving 42 responses to the survey which were incredibly helpful and we are very grateful for the time students took out of their holidays to respond to the Google Form.

We are meeting with Faculty on Wednesday to discuss the concerns raised in the responses and we will provide an update about the matters discussed on Wednesday evening.

We understand students may be a bit stressed about the current circumstances but we hope to be able to resolve this situation as soon as possible!

T3 ELECTIVE ENROLMENT ISSUE GOOGLE FORM CLOSES 5pm TODAY!

Thank you to all of the students who have provided details about their current issues with T3 Elective Enrolment. We have currently had 14 responses so far and would love to get this number to at least 30 in order for the data we obtain from the form to be completely representative of the current struggles students are having and for the form to provide us with an insight into how many students are effected by the current problems.

We totally appreciate that filling out a google form is the absolute last item on anyones holiday bucket list but your responses will be appreciated and will greatly assist us in sorting out the issues with the Faculty at our meeting early next week.

If you are keen to share the issues you are currently facing with enrolling into electives for T3, please see the link below to access the google form.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
