Last week, members of the UTS Pharmacy team were honoured to attend the Pharmaceutical Society of NSW's 150th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the University of Sydney.

For 150 years, the PS NSW has championed the profession, supported pharmacists, and helped shape healthcare in Australia. It was a privilege to celebrate this remarkable milestone alongside colleagues, leaders, and friends from across the profession.

As we educate the next generation of pharmacists, we're proud to be part of a profession built on care, integrity, innovation, and service to the community.

Here's to the next 150 years of making a difference. 💙

🌟 What a week for Cooper Ruthven! 🌟

Last week, Cooper represented UTS in the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s Pharmacy Student of the Year (PSOTY) competition—and he smashed it! 💥

First, he won the UTS-wide round, impressing the judges with his communication, clinical reasoning, and patient care during a simulated case involving head lice treatment. He was also crowned the People’s Choice Award winner, voted by over 55 of his peers! 👏🗳

Then, just a few days later…
🥇 He WON the NSW State Final – and will now go on to represent New South Wales at the National Finals in August at the PSA Conference!

💬 “This competition showcases the expanding scope of community pharmacy and reminds us all that patient care is at the heart of everything we do,” said Dr. Francisco Martinez Mardones, coordinator of the UTS local round.

Last week, our first-year Master of Pharmacy students were joined by two incredible guest lecturers from the pharmaceutical industry:

🔹 Liz Davidson, Quality Assurance Specialist at Roche
🔹 Dr Shrikant Dhumal, CEO of Chemcrom

Liz shared her inspiring journey and highlighted the diverse career pathways for pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry – from quality assurance to regulatory affairs, clinical trials, and beyond. 🌏💊

Dr Dhumal gave an insider’s look into the world of analytical methods in pharmaceutical quality control, helping our students understand the science and precision behind every medicine. 🧪🔬

💡 These sessions are a powerful reminder that pharmacy is more than just community or hospital roles — the pharma industry offers endless opportunities to innovate, lead, and shape the future of healthcare.

This week, our Master of Pharmacy students had the privilege of hearing from Johnson Lee, Chief Pharmacist at the NSW Branch! 🙌💊

Johnson shared invaluable insights on communication in pharmacy, covering:

💬 Techniques to enhance patient interactions
🚧 Barriers to effective communication & how to overcome them
