Discover how JCU Bachelor of Education (Secondary) students were able to put their learning into practice on a field trip to Fiji.

It was an unforgettable experience, where they shared their love of sports (as Health and Physical Education specialists) with the locals.

Much thanks to the Australian Government for the New Colombo Plan funding!

CASE and the Roderick Centre for Australian Literature and Creative Writing JCU is excited to announce one of our own graduates, Joel Preston, as the featured guest author at JCU's Book Week @ JCU in Townsville on 27 August and Cairns on 28 August.

Joel will be sharing his journey to becoming a published author, as well as leading writing workshops with students from Years 9 to 11.

Joel is a Detection Dog Handler by day and, by night, writer of The Old World Saga โ€“ a dark fantasy series weaving together secret agents, mythology and cosmic terrors.

He studied at JCU before setting off to see the world, teaching English in Japan, trekking to Everest Base Camp, and climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.

Those experiences of chasing horizons and testing limits now shape the worlds he builds on the page.

Did you know New Caledonia is one of Australiaโ€™s closest Pacific neighbours? About 2,000km east of Queensland (under a two-hour flight from Brisbane), the French-Melanesian territory is home to a vibrant young population.

Over the past 18 months, a group of high school students from Jules Garnier Senior High School in Noumรฉa have been working hard to raise funds for an educational visit to James Cook University.

Through baking sales, movie nights and other fundraising activities, the students have remained committed to their goal of travelling to North Queensland to test and develop their engineering projects. Now, thanks to a partnership between Jules Garnier Senior High School, Pimlico State High School and JCU: James Cook University, Australia, that ambition is becoming a reality.

The Jules Garnier students arrived this morning and will spend a week at JCUโ€™s Bebegu Yumba campus, working alongside local school students and JCU academics.

The workshop is an opportunity to reflect on their personal journey throughout their studies, reviewing areas of learning as they relate to the professional practice standards for graduating social workers.

Wishing you all the very best as you prepare to practice in the field!
