My fellow performers. Coming out of Quarantine one thing is important to remember.

You are a service, Not a charity

The "We need help bringing in customers again" is not a reason to play for free. No matter your talent it is valuable, and playing for free or "exposure" is not worth the effort nor the dignity.

Howdily doodily folks, I am happy to say that Sopam shall be starting in semester two.

As soon as JCU provides confirmation dates for when classes at campus will reopen aswell as club activities ill be able to spread the good news about what to expect

Moving forward into 2020 we here at SORAM (One person as of now 😂) have made the executive decision to reform the JCU Society of Rock and Metal into the 'JCU Society of Performance and Music''

Why have we done this?

In the past few weeks a growing amount of non Rock and metal musicians have expressed interest into forming a musicians society as a whole that caters to every music genre and style

Does this change any of the previous Rock and metal plans?

Not one single bit. Every single proposed action for SORAM will still be happening as per usual, but now with a place for anyone who plays or wants to learn music.

So what styles and Genre's are welcomed now?

Everything. From orchestral groups to Jazz, if you play an instrument this is the group for you

In the next 24 hours i will have a post up that explains the new Goals and Objectives for SOPAM so keep an eye on the page. Cant wait to kick things off for 2020

So this goes out to anyone who feels interested in joining but wants to prioritise their studies. Because of the amount of students who have mentioned this to me i need to address that

- This isnt specifically a society for full time musicians, The occasional jam session CAN AND WILL happily be organised

- Social events such as barbeques and Pub nights are on the table for social nights and such so you can meet other like minded music fans

So if you have any small amount of interest this is the place for you

Hello everyone and welcome to the official page for the JCU Society of Rock and Metal. We are a group looking to begin in semester two but for now lets talk about who we are and what we want to accomplish

SORAM (Society of Rock and Metal) is a Musician and enthusiast group dedicated to connecting all lovers of the great sound that is rock and metal music. Whether Greta van fleet is your chill out music or you like to "Disrespect your surroundings" in a moshpit this group is for you.

Soram's Goal is to grow the small music community within the University by providing Common ground for all those who Play the music, write the music or just love the music.

For musicians, the aim of this group is to

- Create a community to get to know other musicians around campus

- Collaborate on original music aswell as jam sessions to help and grow everyones skill and technique.

Whether you're just a beginner musician or a seasoned Joe Satriani we want you in our society.

For our non-musician friends this group is a good way to hangout amongst fellow rock and metal fans and maybe even start your own group to mosh with, who knows.

-Treasurer
-Secretary
