Still undecided on your specialty? You aren’t alone ‼️

If the thought of picking a career for the next 30 years feels a bit heavy, or if you missed our “Careers Nights”, we’ve found a resource you need to hear from. Bayesian Musings is a new podcast hosted by Dr. Vish, an ICU doctor at Geelong Hospital.

Think of it as a “Careers Night on the Go.” Dr. Vish sits down with local consultants and registrars for the kind of unfiltered, honest conversations you usually only hear over a post-shift coffee.

Why it’s worth a listen:
• The Origin Stories: It moves past the CVs to explore the pivots, the doubts, and the reality that isn’t in the Deakin handbook.
• The Day to Day: What does life actually look like? From family balance to the ratio of paperwork vs clinical time, it covers the culture, not just the medicine.
• Local Intel: Because these are local docs, the advice on training pathways and hospital dynamics applies directly to the system we’re in right now.

At MeDUSA, we love organising social events and bringing our cohort together, but we’re also working hard behind the scenes to support and advocate for our students.
Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to recently:

- We have provided feedback on the Deakin student travel support guidelines to help ensure equitable support for our rurally based students.

- We are currently liaising with AMA Victoria to contribute student perspectives to ongoing EBA discussions.

- We are collaborating with other Victorian medical schools to organise inter-university social events and strengthen connections across cohorts.

Are you interested in training rurally and rural mental health, register for the RANZCP ‘Rural, unpacked - Live Q&A with the Rural Champions'

Join Dr Sasha Jones and the Rural Champions in an interactive Q&A session exploring why rural is a meaningful career path, and the practical supports available.

‘Rural, unpacked’ offers an insight into the unique experiences of training and practising in a rural location.

🗓️ Tuesday 24 March 2026

⏰ 12 pm AEDT

Dr Sasha Jones is a Rural Champion who believes that some of the most meaningful mental health work happens far from the major cities:

“Rural psychiatry offers experiences and opportunities you simply don’t get elsewhere. You develop broad clinical skills, meaningful autonomy, and strong working relationships with both communities and colleagues. The work is varied and challenging, and you’re often able to see the impact of your care more directly.”
