Figtree High School students competed in the zone athletic carnival today at the Kerryn McCann Athletics Centre. Everyone tried their best with several winners and more making it through to regional.

**Work Experience Win: Taneeka Learns, Leads and Gives Back with the Dragons Community Team**

Taneeka Mortlock had a great week working with the St George Illawarra Dragons community team recently.

She has reported on her experience below:

I had an amazing time participating in work experience with the St George Illawarra Dragons community team last week.
I was lucky enough to attend many places and events within our community, including the Shellharbour Reconciliation Flag Walk, the Southern NSW Country Rugby League Championships in Ulladulla and the PSSA Touch Football and Rugby League gala day in Woonona. I also visited four schools around the Illawarra during the week, including a preschool, two primary schools and a high school.
I assisted in setting up and packing away at all the events, running activities and mini games for the students at schools, scoring and collecting statistics at the Country Championships and supervising the grounds at the gala day.
My favourite parts about my experience were having the rare opportunity to see inside and use the new Bruce Gordon Centre where I got to see the Dragons players train on the field and in the gym. I loved working alongside three NRLW Dragons players who are also part of the community team.
The week helped me develop and improve many important skills needed for work life like communication, teamwork and proactiveness. This experience has really opened my vision to the many different opportunities available in the workplace.

Figtree High School is encouraging action for Men to not put their physical, mental and emotional health on hold. Promoting healthy habits, meaningful conversations, and seeking support when needed.

Students in Ms Fernandes’ Year 9 Commerce class recently completed a case study on McDonald’s as part of their Promotion and Selling unit. To support their learning, students visited the local Figtree McDonald’s restaurant to conduct firsthand research into the promotional strategies, marketing techniques, and selling methods used by the business. This valuable real-world experience enabled students to apply classroom knowledge in an authentic setting and deepen their understanding of how businesses attract and engage customers.

A fantastic run of achievements by our Open Boys Soccer Team, who finished runners-up at the Northern Illawarra Zone Gala Day, losing only to Smith's Hill in the final and qualifying for the next stage, The Puma Cup.

Special congratulations to Adam Nikoloski, Declan Pearce and Christian Nikoloski for their representative honours, with Adam and Christian earning selection in the representative team and Declan being selected as a shadow player for the squad.

The boys then continued their impressive form in the Puma Cup knockout rounds, defeating Oak Flats High School 11–1 before overcoming Kiama High School 2–1 to secure a place in the NSWCHS Round of 16.

Congratulations to all players on their hard work, commitment and outstanding performances. We wish the team the very best in their upcoming matches!

Yesterday, Year 12 English Standard students went to Sydney University for a day of intensive revision for Paper 2 of the English HSC examination. Along with 2,200 other students from all around NSW, students participated in seminars hosted by expert teachers, and gained new perspectives and ideas for the modules they have been studying this year. They also got a taste of University life for a day.

Congratulations to our Senior Boys Volleyball Team on their outstanding efforts at the 2nd Round of the Northern Illawarra Zone Volleyball Gala Day!

The boys recorded impressive wins over Moss Vale, Smiths Hill and Bowral throughout the day, showcasing fantastic determination, skill and teamwork in every match. They were extremely unlucky not to progress to the next stage, with qualification coming down to the very last game of the day.

A special mention also to the positive feedback received from South Coast Volleyball convener Stephen Campbell, who commended the team on their excellent effort, sportsmanship and teamwork across the competition.

We are incredibly proud of the way the boys represented our school and cannot wait for next year already!
