A fascinating article published by American Geophysical Union (AGU) in Eos explores research by Associate Professor Enbang Li from the School of Mathematics and Physics. He is is challenging a long‑held assumption in physics - that the speed of light is constant. His work suggests gravity may slightly alter light's speed, opening up new possibilities for detecting subtle variations in Earth's gravitational field.

Why does this matter? These tiny variations could help scientists "see" beneath the Earth's surface in new ways, potentially improving how we locate minerals and understand underground structures.

👏 A special congratulations also to Amanda Munasinghe, who was awarded the People's Choice Award.

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT), developed by the University of Queensland, is a globally recognised competition that challenges PhD candidates to communicate their research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. More than 900 institutions across 85+ countries now participate in this prestigious event.
