TETA B&H Tuzla English Teachers' Association
http://teta-upej.ba/ The Tuzla English Teachers’ Association (TETA) is quite young.

However, it has already proven to be very fruitful. What adds more weight to its success are the challenging circumstances in which TETA was born. Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH) is a country with a very complicated political system, and the educational system is no simpler. A national ministry of education does not exist: instead there are thirteen-one representing each of the two entities of Bosnia &

Herzegovina, e.g., the Federation of Bosnia & Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska, one representing Brčko District, plus ten more ministries at the cantonal level in the Federation, each with a high degree of autonomy. In this scenario, previous teachers’ associations, organized at the entity level in attempt to bring together teachers from different cantons, proved to be dysfunctional. Aware of teachers’ needs and prospects yet tired of waiting for someone else to take action, a handful of enthusiastic English teachers in Tuzla decided to establish an association at a more local level, where plans might be easier to carry out. This has turned out to be an excellent idea. To date, TETA has been involved in the organization of several events, including workshops and seminars for teachers in Tuzla Canton, participation in international conferences, and establishing partnerships with other English language teachers' associations in the region. All of this has been accomplished in quite a short period of time and on a very limited budget. Our fellow teachers value that we are trying to address the most relevant issues facing our professional community. The teachers themselves share their own positive experiences and ideas and in turn, TETA gathers feedback on what topics they want covered in the future seminars. These events also provide professional development opportunities for teachers to give presentations and/or facilitate workshops. For example, teachers with less presentation experience are partnered with more experienced fellow teachers, who usually have formal training. TETA’s goal is to set an example which other areas might wish to follow in order to gradually build a network of associations connecting English language teaching professionals in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Dear colleagues,

You are kindly invited to register for the 11th Tuzla English Language Teaching Seminar TELTS 2022- "Game on!".

TELTS 2022 is an intensive two-day ELT methodology seminar, which will take place at Behram-begova medresa in Tuzla from the 23rd to 24th of June. The seminar will offer a range of dynamic methodologies and efficient classroom practices for English language teachers. It will address contemporary topics in education and English language teaching.
The teacher trainers will be Kevin McCaughey, Regional English Language Officer located at the US Embassy in Belgrade, Piero Carlini, English Language Fellow at the University of Banja Luka, an EL Specialist from the USA provided by the Regional English Language office (RELO) in Belgrade, and local AE programs alumni currently working at the universities and schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

TELTS 2022 is supported by the following institutions and organizations: US Embassy in Sarajevo, Regional English Language Office (RELO) located in Belgrade, Ministry of Education and Science of Tuzla Canton, Pedagogical Institute Tuzla, Tuzla English Teachers Association (TETA), Tuzla Muftiate and other educational institutions and relevant associations in our country and abroad.

The Seminar will host 60 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina. English language teachers who work at primary schools, high schools and universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as pre-service teachers are eligible to apply.

The travel and accommodation costs of the participants coming from distant places will be covered, as well as travel costs of all participants coming from outside of Tuzla.

In case of large number of applicants, a five-member selection panel will select participants based on the following criteria: EL teachers who have never participated in TELTS seminars have priority over those who have already participated before. Another important criterion is equitable geographical representation. However, a waiting list will be set up and, in case somebody cancels the registration, the selection process will further be conducted on a first come-first serve basis.

Full two-day attendance is mandatory for all the participants in order to get the certificate which is provided by the US Embassy in Sarajevo.

Deadline for submitting the registration form is the 20th of May.
