On September 26, 2023, at 11:00 AM, department of English, SEU observed T.S. Eliot's 135th birthday titled "Celebrating T.S. Eliot: Dhaka, the Dying City". The 1948 winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, T.S. Eliot is highly distinguished as a poet, a literary critic, a dramatist, an editor, and a publisher.
Honorable Advisor to Southeast University's Board of Trustees Professor Dr. A.N.M. Meshquat Uddin presided over the occasion, while Dr. Mst. Shahanaz Khanam, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of English, SEU, delivered the welcome speech.
Professor Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, department of English, University of Dhaka graced the occasion as the resource person. He delivered an insightful speech about the late poet's contribution to literature and enlightened the students present in the event.
The Department of English at SEU hosted the "Dhaka, the Dying City" photography contest and the winners were awarded prizes by the distinguished guests. The students of the department of English put together a vibrant cultural program as a part of the celebration. The event’s convener, Ms. Nafisa Ahsan Nitu, Assistant Professor in the department of English at Southeast University, delivered a vote of thanks to conclude the event.
