The Department of Islamic History and Culture is under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Chittagong. Since the inception of the University of Chittagong in 1966, the need for producing university graduates having specialized knowledge in the history of the Muslims and their culture. In this context, the Department of Islamic History and Culture was founded in 1974. Primarily

the Program was started with three years’ Hons and one year master’s. Then this Department started to provide a required number of graduates to mitigate the need of both government and the different private sectors of Bangladesh. These graduates have been providing invaluable service to various areas including different positions in public service including teaching, banking, business enterprise, private sector, etc. In 1998, the department turned the program into four years BA Hon’s program and included both media of study in Bengali and English language. And the BA Hon’s program designed for 120 credits instead of 90 credits and CGPA grading system. The department introduces study tours for Bangladeshi graduates and SAARC tours for undergraduate students.
