HISTORY

Zorargonj is a village based area with amazing natural beauty under Mirsarai Upa-Zilla of Chittagong district. The Textile Engineering College is situated by the side of the old DT (Dhaka Trunk) Road passing through Zorargonj Bazar. It was established in the year 1911 as a Peri-patetic Weaving School, which was the result of "SHAWDESHI ANDULLON" during the British regime. It was transferred to the Dewanpur near entry point of Mohuri Project Road in 1960. In 1980 the course of Peri-patetic Weaving School was up-graded to 2-year certificate course in textile technology, which was named as District Textile Institute. In 1994 a 3-year Diploma course was introduced in this institution under-Bangladesh Technical Education Board to meet-up the growing demand of mid level technologists. Duration of this course was extended to 4-year from 2001. Considering the high demand of Textile Engineers for the fast growing textile sector, the government has taken necessary steps to introduce 4-year Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering affiliated to the University of Chittagong, abolishing the Textile Diploma Course from the session 2006-2007. CTEC is affiliated to Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTex) from session 2012-2013.

Currently, BD RMG factories are running for 6 days a week and 8 hours a day (without overtime). Let's think for a 2-day weekend with 5 days of work (4 Day X 10Hr + 5th day X 8Hr = 48 Hr) week. I believe people will have more work life balance with good health having 2 days of weekend even though they may have to do some overtime during the weekdays based on our business need.

This will help early aging problem of our workforce, people will get enough time to enjoy their life, and more GDP contribution to the Tourism & Leisure/ entertainment industry. Some people will get enough time to learn new skills to be ready for shifting to other rising industry (any shift can come at any time in this dynamic world).

Furthermore, the fixed cost associated mostly with utilities may come down in a 5 working a week. And during peak season some weeks can be worked with additional working days when company and workforce both will earn more by doing extra day work (still justified as order pressure are not same in the year round).

6 days of extreme physical work seem not to be sustainable in the long run and higher efficiency may not be achieved under this situation. More detailed research can be conducted to reach in a final conclusion.

টেক্সটাইল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কলেজ জোরারগঞ্জ চট্টগ্রামের ১৩তম ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থী মারুফা আজ সকাল আটটার দিকে বারিয়ারহাট-চট্টগ্রাম হাইওয়েতে বারৈয়ারহাট ফায়ার সার্ভিসের পাশে এক্সিডেন্ট করেছে। ট্রাকের ধাক্কায় লেগুনা উল্টে গিয়েছে এবং লেগুনার আরো অনেক যাত্রী গুরতরভাবে আহত হয়েছে। মারুফাকে আন নূর হাসপাতালে প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা দেয়ার পর চট্টগ্রাম মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হচ্ছে। সবাই দোয়া করবেন। আমাদের প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থী ও শুভাকাঙ্ক্ষীদের কারো চট্টগ্রাম মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পরিচিত থাকলে আবদুল্লাহ রনি (01675-516853) স্যারের সাথে যোগাযোগ করার জন্য অনুরোধ করা হল।
