Institute of Community Ophthalmology -ICO Optometry is an eye care profession which is dedicated to the improvement and preservation of eye sight. There are full time and part-time faculties. Prof. F.A.

The Institute of Community Ophthalmology is the brain child of a group of visionary, aware of Community Ophthalmic problems in Bangladesh created with the idea to impart training to doctors in Community oriented Ophthalmology along side clinical Ophthalmology to meet the demand of the country.This led to the establishment of Institute of Community Ophthalmology (ICO) in 1981, initially as an affil

iated institution, eventually became a constituent part of University of Chittagong. The institution is housed at Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex campus because of the availability of necessary infrastructure and logistic services and supports particularly the clinical facilities. A separate Governing Body headed by Vice chancellor, University of Chittagong is at the helm. The institute is headed by a full time director who looks, after the routine and day to day academic and clinical activities. Billson, Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology, Sydney University is closely associated with the doctors training programsince 1979 and assisted with the creation of the Institute of Community Ophthalmology. The Institution is also fortunate to have a group of part-time faculties of International repute of which Prof.R.Pararajasegaram (Swizterland) and Prof. Rogers Pierson (USA) are mentionable. The Institute runs regular post-graduate courses in Ophthalmology leading to Diploma in Community Ophthalmology, in which besides doctors from within the country, also from abroad enrolls. Since 2010, DCO courses are affiliated by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka and are run by its academic rules and regulations. ICO is also a centre for “International Council of Ophthalmology” Examination for the last 15 years. Institute of Community Ophthalmology (ICO) has also started Bechelor of Science in Optometry (B.Optom) since 2010. This is a 4 years honours course under University of Chittagong.

ইনস্টিটিউট অব কমিউনিটি অপথ্যালমোলজি (ICO), চট্টগ্রাম-এ ২০২৫-২০২৬ শিক্ষাবর্ষে বি.এস.সি ইন অপ্টোমেট্রি কোর্সে ভর্তির আবেদন শুরু হচ্ছে।

📌 আবেদনের বিশেষ তথ্যাবলি:
• আবেদনের সময়সীমা: ২০ জানুয়ারি ২০২৬ থেকে ৩১ মার্চ ২০২৬ (রাত ১১:৫৯ মিনিট পর্যন্ত)।
• ভর্তি পরীক্ষার তারিখ: ০৮ এপ্রিল ২০২৬ (বুধবার), সকাল ১০:০০ টা।
• আবেদন ফি: ১২০০/- টাকা (দি সিটি ব্যাংক পিএলসি-তে জমা দিতে হবে)।

✅ আবেদনের যোগ্যতা:
• ২০২২/২০২৩ সালে এসএসসি এবং ২০২৪/২০২৫ সালে এইচএসসি (বিজ্ঞান বিভাগ) উত্তীর্ণ।
• এসএসসি ও এইচএসসি উভয় পরীক্ষায় পদার্থবিজ্ঞান ও জীববিজ্ঞান থাকতে হবে।
• উভয় পরীক্ষায় মোট জিপিএ ন্যূনতম ৮.০০ থাকতে হবে (কোনোটিতেই জিপিএ ৩.৫০ এর কম গ্রহণযোগ্য নয়)।

📝 পরীক্ষা পদ্ধতি:
• ১০০ নম্বরের এমসিকিউ (MCQ) পরীক্ষা।
• বিষয়: পদার্থবিজ্ঞান (২৫), জীববিজ্ঞান (২৫), রসায়ন (২০), ইংরেজি (২০), সাধারণ জ্ঞান (০৫) এবং মানবিক প্রশ্ন (০৫)।
• পাস নম্বর: ৫০। নেগেটিভ মার্কিং নেই।

Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong Medical University, Prof. Dr. Omar Faruque Yusuf, along with Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Chowdhury (Dean of Technology, CMU), Prof. Dr. Mainal Hossain (College Inspector, CMU), and Prof. Dr. Ajay Deb (Dean of Basic Science and Paraclinical Science & Exam Controller, CMU), visited the Institute of Community Ophthalmology (ICO) on Monday, 01 September 2025.

Our Institute Director, Prof. Dr. Khurshid Alam, and CEITC Medical Director, Dr. Rajib Husain, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests. The team inspected classrooms, practical labs, the library, and other facilities, and provided valuable guidance for the future development of the institute.

Also present during the visit were ICO Ophthalmologists Prof. Dr. Munirujzaman Osmani and Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahmad; Assistant Professor (Ophthalmology) Dr. Shaila Begum; Assistant Professor (Optometry) Jewel Das Gupta; along with other faculty members and office staff of ICO and CEITC.
