✨ Huge congratulations to Miftahul Jannat Saima. ✨

Miftahul Jannat Saima is heading to Harvard University for her Master's degree in Learning Design, Innovation, and Technology. She earned her U.S. student visa and will leave for Harvard soon.

Harvard is funding her studies through two major awards. She received the Barakett Family Fellowship, given each year to one student across the entire Harvard University based on merit and academic excellence. She also received the Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme (AKF ISP), a highly competitive award given to a small number of students worldwide.

Saima had other strong offers too. Oxford accepted her into its MSc in Education, Digital and Social Change and its MPhil in Development Studies. Cambridge offered her a spot in its MPhil in Development Studies and its MPhil in Education, Globalisation and International Development. She weighed her options carefully and chose Harvard.

Her path to this point included an exchange semester at Sciences Po and an internship with BNP Paribas in Hong Kong. Both experiences shaped her academic and professional growth and prepared her for graduate study.

We're proud to have played a small part in her story. Congratulations, Saima. Harvard is lucky to have you.

🌱 Bridging the gap between the classroom and the real world! 🌍

Our introduction to Environmental Sciences students recently embarked on an incredible field trip packed with learning, collaboration, and discovery. The day's journey took them across three unique hubs of sustainability:

The Green Bangle Movement Project Nursery: Discussing palmyrah plantation management right at the Main Campus.

The Waste-to-Wealth Initiative: Exploring the innovative Black Soldier Fly project.

Udaliya Tea Garden: Diving into landscape management and local livelihoods firsthand.

This immersive experience allowed our future environmental professionals to connect textbook knowledge with real-world applications in sustainable agriculture and human-environment interactions. Every field experience brings them one step closer to shaping a sustainable future! 🌟

🌿 Biological Science Batch Field Trip to Sreemangal 🌿

The Department of Biological Sciences at Asian University for Women recently organized a field trip to Sreemangal, offering students an enriching opportunity to explore Bangladesh's rich biodiversity, agricultural research, and cultural heritage through experiential learning.

A major highlight of the trip was the visit to the Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI), where students gained firsthand knowledge of tea science and production. They explored different tea varieties, learned about cultivation practices and the complete tea processing workflow, from freshly harvested leaves to the final product, and experienced the distinct flavors and characteristics of various teas. The group was warmly welcomed by Dr. Ismail Hossain, Director of BTRI, who generously shared his insights into the institute's work, the rich history and culture of tea in Bangladesh, and the groundbreaking research being conducted to advance and strengthen the country's tea industry. The visit provided valuable insights into one of Bangladesh's most significant agricultural industries and its ongoing research and innovation.

The following day, students visited Lawachara National Park, one of the country's most important tropical rainforest ecosystems. Walking through the forest trails allowed students to observe diverse plant species, including centuries-old trees, while experiencing the ecological significance of a natural rainforest. The excursion became even more memorable with the sighting of the endangered Western Hoolock Gibbon (Ulluk) in its natural habitat, offering a rare opportunity to witness Bangladesh's remarkable wildlife firsthand.

The itinerary also included visits to a rubber garden and Manipuri Para, where students learned about rubber cultivation, explored the rich cultural heritage of the Manipuri community, and enjoyed Sreemangal's iconic Seven-Layer Tea.

The field trip served as a valuable extension of classroom learning, allowing students to connect biological concepts with real-world applications while fostering curiosity, collaboration, and appreciation for Bangladesh's natural and cultural diversity.
