Stamford University Holds Orientation, Professional Session and Farewell for Environmental Science Students
The Department of Environmental Science at Stamford University Bangladesh organised a Freshmen Orientation, Professional Orientation and Farewell Ceremony at the university auditorium on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The programme was arranged to welcome newly admitted students, provide professional guidance to final-year students and bid farewell to graduating students of the department.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr Mahmuda Parvin, Chairman and Associate Professor of the Department of Environmental Science. The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of Stamford University Bangladesh, Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber.
Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of Central University, Bangladesh, attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Among the distinguished guests were Professor Dr Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Dr Mohammad Jeaul Hasan, Treasurer; Muhammad Abdul Matin, Registrar; Dr Mrityunjoy Acharya, Proctor of Stamford University Bangladesh; Dr Md Sharifull Islam, Associate Professor and Executive Director of SURC; and Md Ashik Mahmud, Head of Admission.
Faculty members of the Department of Environmental Science, including Assistant Professors Kamrun Nahar Khan Mukti and Dr Taniziman Ara, as well as Lecturers Md Nasir Ahmmed Patoary and Shaila Akther, were also present at the event. The first session of the programme was moderated by Md Humayun Kabir, Assistant Professor of the department.
In his speech, chief guest Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam described Environmental Science as a multidisciplinary field offering diverse career opportunities for students. Addressing the freshers, he said, “Welcome to the world of environmental thought.” He further stressed that collective efforts towards environmental protection and sustainability could contribute significantly to sustainable development.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber said, “All of you who are here today will one day become physicians of the Earth.” He noted that growing environmental challenges worldwide are increasing interest in Environmental Science education. He welcomed the newly admitted students and wished the graduating students success in their future careers.
During the first phase of the programme, students from the 84th, 85th and 86th batches of the department were welcomed with flowers. In the second phase, graduating students from the 75th, 76th, 77th, 78th and 79th batches were honoured with commemorative crests.
The closing remarks were delivered by Mahmuda Islam, Assistant Professor and Acting Chairman of the Department of Environmental Science. The event concluded with a colourful cultural programme jointly hosted by students Tanha Bir Mortuza Niloy and Puja Moitra, coordinated by Kamrun Nahar Khan Mukti, Assistant Professor of the department.
