Starting as the American Bangladesh Economic Forum (ABEF) in 1988, it took eight more years to formally establish the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) in 1996 to promote the economic relationships between Bangladesh and the United States of America. Chamber of Commerce — the largest business federation in the United States, representing the interests of over 3 million U.S. compa

nies — and serves as AmCham’s voice in Washington, D.C. on trade and investment-related policies. We take pride in providing a common platform for all our members and stakeholders a networking environment that attract people from a rich variety of national and business backgrounds. Interaction here is ever interesting and our events focus on local, regional or global issues with expert speakers, panels and conferences to keep you and your business on top of best practices and emerging trends. We promote American business in Bangladesh, bringing together US companies as well as local counterparts doing business with the US. We are a non-profit membership association promoting activities that would encourage and stimulate investment by US companies, encouraging bilateral trade between the US and Bangladesh and supporting the ongoing business operations of its members. The membership of the AmCham includes US Companies doing business in Bangladesh, Bangladesh Companies whose primary business is representing US produced goods and services; and non-profit organizations of United States origin.

AmCham Bangladesh held a courtesy meeting with a global senior delegation from Hop Lun on 14 May 2026 at Sheraton Dhaka.

The delegation shared insights on Hop Lun’s current business operations in Bangladesh and expressed their interest in further expanding their engagement in the country. The discussion also explored potential areas of collaboration with AmCham Bangladesh, while the Hop Lun team appreciated AmCham’s continued role in strengthening business connectivity, advocacy, and investment facilitation.
AmCham Bangladesh was represented by Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed, President, accompanied by Mr. Chowdhury Kaiser Mohammad Riyadh, Executive Director, and Mr. Md. Sanowar Hossain, Joint Secretary.
The Hop Lun delegation included Ms. Stella Lee, Principal, Operations for Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, Platinum Equity; Mr. Jonathan Yuen, Global General Counsel and Group Head of Legal; Mr. KC Chai, Group CFO; and Ms. Aneeqa Daiyan, Company Secretary, Bangladesh Operation, Hop Lun Apparel Limited.

AmCham Bangladesh hosted a briefing session on the Bangladesh Development Update: April 2026 Edition, presented by the World Bank team led by Mr. Dhruv Sharma, Senior Economist, World Bank.

The discussion focused on Bangladesh’s economic outlook, investment climate, financial sector development, digitization, trade facilitation, and opportunities for sustainable growth.

AmCham President Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed, Treasurer Mr. Al Mamun M Rashel, EC Members Ms. Rubaba Dowla and Mr. Mirza Shajib Raihan, Executive Director Chowdhury Mohammad Kaiser Riyadh attended the session alongside representatives from the World Bank Bangladesh team and AmCham member organizations, including Colgate Palmolive Bangladesh Managing Director Mr. Hasan Mazhar and Phillip Morris Bangladesh Managing Director Mr. Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud.
