From building an argument to delivering it with conviction, the session explored what truly lies at the heart of effective debate.

The CUB Law & Moot Club successfully concluded its first debate workshop, featuring Eqra Mohammad Resalat Ohee, Co-Founder & CEO of Amigo and an accomplished debater. His practical insights and engaging session gave our students a valuable perspective on argumentation, reasoning, and persuasive advocacy.

With the guidance and support of our faculty members Subrina Reza and Sumaiya Islam Mrittika, the session became a meaningful learning experience for our students. The workshop concluded with closing remarks from our Head of the Department of Law, Mohammad Sunzad Sheikh, who shared his vision for strengthening debating within the Department of Law and encouraged students to build a stronger culture of debate, advocacy, and intellectual engagement.

THE ART OF DEBATE | Debate Workshop Session

The Department of Law, Canadian University of Bangladesh, proudly hosted a Labour Day celebration alongside the unveiling ceremony of its Labour Day magazine, “Voices of Labour,” on 3 May 2026 at the Sharafat Chowdhury Multipurpose Hall, in observance of International Labour Day.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. HM Jahirul Haque; Director of Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor Mohammad Sunzad Sheikh; Registrar, ASMG Faruk; along with respected faculty members of the Department of Law. The program featured the official unveiling of the magazine and a series of student presentations addressing key labour-related issues, including workers’ rights, workplace safety, gender challenges in labour sectors, and the realities of informal employment, based on their field research.

“Voices of Labour,” centered on the rights, struggles, and dignity of workers in Bangladesh, is an initiative of the Summer ’25 batch of the Department of Law. The project was undertaken as part of the Law of Labour Relations course under the guidance of the Course Teacher, Lecturer Ms. Sumaiya Islam Mrittika, who also coordinated the overall event and guided the students in their research. As part of this initiative, students conducted field visits across different labour sectors and presented their key findings during the program.

The distinguished guests delivered insightful speeches, formally unveiled the magazine, and highly appreciated the dedication and efforts of the Summer ’25 batch. They also encouraged students to continue engaging in such meaningful academic and socially impactful initiatives. The event concluded with the formal recognition of "Voices of Labour,” marking a significant academic and collaborative achievement for the Department of Law, Canadian University of Bangladesh. This initiative reflects the department’s continued commitment to academic excellence and labour rights advocacy.

We are immensely proud to share that the Canadian University of Bangladesh team secured the Runner-Up position at the 2nd Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of the Stetson International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, held at the IUB campus from 5–7 February 2026.

The team, consisting of
1.Asef Ibnul (1st Oralist),
2.Aarian Borno (2nd Oralist), and
3.Fair Islam Kheya (Researcher), demonstrated commendable advocacy, research excellence, dedication, and patience throughout a highly competitive process.

Competing against 32 law schools from across the country, Team CUB advanced successfully through the Preliminary, Quarter-Final, and Semi-Final rounds to reach this achievement.

This accomplishment was made possible through the constant mentorship of their coach, Ms. Rubaya Islam, Lecturer, Department of Law, CUB. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Nazifa Muniyat Quader and all the faculty members for their valuable support and insights. Special appreciation goes to Muhammad Sunzad Sheikh, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, whose continuous guidance and encouragement played a vital role in this journey.

This achievement reflects the collective effort of the team, and we remain grateful and proud of Team CUB for representing the university and CUBLMC with integrity and excellence. We hope that such team effort and dedication would be reflected in their future endeavours as well.
