Held at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences.
On March 1, 2025, The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, BUHS hosted the Model Global Parliament event, an interactive simulation aimed at addressing global issues namely, Climate Change, Global Migration Crisis and Cancer Awareness in collaboration with the World Citizens Association (WCA) Australia. The program was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) of BUHS, Prof. Dr. SK Akhtar Ahmad with Prof. Dr. Mahmud Hossain Faruquee, Head of the Dept. of Occupational and Environmental Health in chair and Dr Wali Islam, Director, WCA-Australia and Prof. Dr. Zahid Hassan, Registrar, BUHS as guests. The event was co-ordinated by Associate Prof. Dr Saika Nizam and with Associate Prof. Palash Chandra Banik and Dr. Tanjina Atique Munia.
A total of 45 student members participated as parliamentarians, divided into three regional teams: Asia, Australia, and Africa. Each team was leaded by: : Mst. Sadia Akter, Parliamentarian Leader, Golam Hakkany, Deputy Leader and Mohsina Haque Safi, Whip. : Shaikh Bin Aziz, Parliamentarian Leader, Fahmida Hossain Eshika, Deputy Leader and Monira Monorama, Whip. : Rownok Jahan Nahin, Parliamentarian Leader, Abdur Rajjak Rabby, Deputy Leader and Shafin Rahman Mahi, Whip.
The sessions were chaired with Azizul Hoque Mozumder, elected Speaker of the House, Miss Sumaiya and Sudipta Kumar Mondal as Deputy Speakers.
Before giving the floor for presenting the bills in the house by the team leaders, the Speaker provided an overview of the parliamentary rules and regulations, emphasizing the importance of adhering to these principles throughout the session.
Following bills were passed in the through lively parliamentary debate and voting:
▪️On -Countries contributing to climate change should be taxed; Set targets to reduce reliance on coal and promote forest conservation;Promote tree planting with a target of 25% green plantation in each region.
▪️On : Create skilled workforce programs for migrants; Develop fair immigration systems in developed countries ensuring humanitarian visa programs; Share refugee responsibilities equitably among developed nations to ensure better living standards.
▪️On : Make cancer screening and diagnostic tests easily accessible; Decentralize cancer treatment and ensure access from rural to urban areas; Establish cancer registries for accurate data collection.
