A research team from BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology - BUFT has secured a competitive research grant worth Tk 1.5 crore under the Bangladesh Innovation and Research for Development Initiative (BIRDI).

The funding is part of the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP), implemented by the Ministry of Finance Bangladesh with financial support from the Asian Development Bank.

Today, we remember. Today, we bow our heads in deep respect.

21st February is not just a date, it is a story written with courage, sacrifice and love for language. On this day, the soil of Dhaka was touched by the blood of brave souls who stood firm for their mother tongue. Their voices were silenced, but their sacrifice gave a nation its identity.

From the Department of Environmental Science, we honor the memory of the language martyrs whose sacrifice teaches us the true meaning of dignity, culture, and belonging. Just as we strive to protect our environment, we also carry the responsibility to preserve our language, heritage, and roots. Both are essential for a sustainable and meaningful future.

This day reminds us that identity is not given, it is earned, protected and passed on. The spirit of Ekushey inspires us to stand for what is right, to respect diversity, and to nurture the values that define us.

With deep mourning, respect, and gratitude, we remember the martyrs who gave us the right to speak, to express, and to exist as a nation.

Ramadan Kareem 🌙

Ramadan comes quietly, like a gentle reminder for the heart. It brings a chance to pause, to reflect, and to return to what truly matters — faith, patience, and kindness. In this blessed month, every prayer feels deeper, every act of goodness feels more meaningful.

Allah says in the Qur’an:
**“O you who believe! Fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous.”** *(Qur'an, Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183)*

Ramadan is not just about staying hungry — it is about feeding the soul. It teaches us to control our desires, to be grateful for what we have, and to care for those who have less. It reminds us that even the smallest act of kindness can bring great reward.

May this Ramadan fill our hearts with peace, strengthen our faith, and bring us closer to Allah. May our prayers be accepted, our sins be forgiven, and our lives be guided towards goodness.

Academic Industrial visit

The Department of Environmental Science at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) organized an educational industrial visit to the manufacturing facilities of Al-Muslim Group in Savar, Dhaka, on January 18, 2026. A total of 37 students from Batch ES-252 participated in the visit, organized and supervised by Mr. Biddut Chandra Sarker, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science.

The primary objective of the visit was to enhance students’ practical understanding by exposing them to real-life environmental management and sustainability practices followed in an industrial setting. During the visit, students observed various environmental aspects of factory operations, including waste management systems, effluent treatment processes, occupational health and safety measures, and compliance with buyers' Code of Conduct and national and international environmental regulations.

Mr. Rajib Hossain, Assistant General Manager-Environmental Sustainability, Al-Muslim Group, shared practical insights into environmental monitoring, pollution control strategies, and the implementation of sustainability practices in industrial operations, which significantly enriched the students’ learning experience.

The Department of Environmental Science sincerely thanks the management of Al-Muslim Group for their cordial cooperation and support. Such industrial visits are a vital component of experiential learning and play an important role in preparing students for professional careers in environmental management and sustainable industrial practices.

Department of ES of BUFT Organized Vivarium and Potted Plant Exhibition

The Department of Environmental Science (ES) of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) organized a Vivarium and Potted Plant Exhibition on 12 January 2026, as a course-based academic activity under the BSc in Environmental Science program. The exhibition aimed to promote applied learning and environmental awareness, with a particular focus on indoor and outdoor air pollution, its sources, impacts, and practical mitigation strategies. Students showcased their academic projects through potted plants and vivarium displays, demonstrating low-cost, sustainable, and science-based environmental solutions.

The displays highlighted the role of plants in improving air quality, carbon sequestration, microclimate regulation, and urban greening, while also emphasizing the integration of sustainability with aesthetic value. The event provided students with hands-on learning opportunities and strengthened their understanding of environmental science and science communication. The exhibition concluded successfully with positive engagement from faculty members, students, and visitors, contributing to an enriched academic environment at BUFT.
