The panel discussion will investigate how linguistic manipulation fuels misinformation and polarization, and how language education and critical literacy can serve as safeguards for informed civic participation.

๐๐๐ฌ๐ก๐ซ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐ก๐๐ก๐ข๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ข๐ง is a Professor of English at Jahangirnagar University and a 2022 Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence. His research spans critical pedagogy, decolonial studies, comparative literature, media and cultural studies, and q***r epistemology. He is widely recognized for convening Bangladesh's first online literary festival (English JUbilee Lit Fest 2021) and for leading Research Tours and Student Research Symposia that promote experiential learning and academic collaboration. He is currently working on projects on teaching World Literature in Bangladesh and co-editing a forthcoming volume on South Asian Comparative Literature.
๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ก๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ง ๐๐ก๐๐ง is a Professor in the Department of English and Humanities at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Director of the Center for South Asian Studies. An interdisciplinary scholar with two PhDs, his research focuses on discourse analysis, language policy, linguistic anthropology, sociolinguistics, identity formation, and ideological contestations. He has published widely on medium of instruction, equity, and social justice, with contributions to Springer and Routledge, and is co-editor of the Routledge Handbook of English Language Education in Bangladesh (2021).
๐๐ซ. ๐๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐๐ง๐ is a Professor in the Department of English and Humanities at BRAC University. She is currently involved in a range of research projects on child language development that connect Bangla child language data to the vast crosslinguistic body of work conducted in this area. Her work focuses on tracing the development of Bangla-speaking children with regard to morphology and syntax. She also works on the preservation of indigenous languages, with a particular focus on mother tongue-based education for children. Her works have appeared in prestigious journals, such as Asian Ethnicity, Current Issues in Language Planning, Journal of Language, Identity & Education.

๐๐ซ. ๐๐. ๐๐ก๐๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐๐ฌ๐ฅ๐๐ฆ is an Associate Professor at BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), BRAC University. With over two decades of experience as a researcher and educator, Dr. Islam's research interests include self-regulated learning, second language acquisition, English language teaching (ELT) pedagogy, teacher education, and language assessment. His works have been published in leading Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals, and he has presented at major international conferences across Asia and North America. In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he received the โAILA Solidarity Award 2024โ.
