As Bangladesh faces rising temperatures and increasing heat-related risks, stronger action is needed to protect communities and workers.

In a recent article in Dawn, Farzana Misha, Associate Professor at the BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health (BRAC JPGSPH), BRAC University, highlighted ongoing efforts to map heat across Dhaka and develop a heat-health action plan. The proposed plan includes area-specific measures such as green zones, cooling shelters and local early-warning systems.

While Bangladesh has workplace provisions for ventilation, drinking water, and first aid, gaps remain in protecting workers from heat stress, including measures such as mandatory breaks during extreme heat and the recognition of heat stress and fatigue as occupational health risks.

On 29 July 2026, the students of the Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases course concluded their classes with Dr Emily Gurley, Distinguished Professor of the Practice at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and one of the course coordinators.

On 12 August 2026, the MPH 22nd Batch visited the icddr,b Field Office, Nutrition and Clinical Division, Pallabi, Mirpur, as part of the Public Health Nutrition course.

The session included a discussion on Environmental Enteropathy and a trial of a new dietary treatment during pregnancy, led by Dr Mehjabin Tishan Mahfuz, followed by a field visit to the homes of women enrolled in the trial.

The experience gave students valuable practical insight into community-based nutrition research and field implementation.
