World Breastfeeding Week 2026 🍼
On 6 August 2026, BRAC Institute of Nursing and Midwifery organized a Community Visit and Pop-Up Fair to promote maternal and newborn health.
During the Pop-Up Fair, our student midwives provided ANC counseling, free vital signs assessment, and pregnancy-related health education to mothers and their families. They also raised awareness about Exclusive Breastfeeding, breastfeeding positions, proper baby attachment, and the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby.
Through this initiative, our student midwives promoted healthy practices and empowered mothers and families with essential knowledge for a healthier future.

Midwifery Education Program of BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health (JPGSPH), BRAC University organized a three-day Faculty Development Training (20 to 22 July) to enhance the participants' midwifery knowledge, clinical and teaching skills, and professional competence. It strengthened their confidence in delivering high-quality education and provided deeper understanding of evidence-based midwifery practices. The programme equipped faculty members with the knowledge and confidence needed to effectively support student learning and maintain high educational standards.

𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟑𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐂𝐌 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐛𝐨𝐧

Dr. Sharmina Rahman, representing BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, made a remarkable contribution at the 34th International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) Congress 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal, in June 2026. The congress brought together 3200 midwifery leaders, educators, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world to advance evidence-based midwifery practice and strengthen maternal and newborn health outcomes globally.

Demonstrating strong professional visibility and leadership, she was selected as an oral presenter, presenting the paper “Are We Utilizing Midwives Effectively? Experiences from Bangladesh.” In addition, she showcased a presentation on transforming normal delivery practices: lessons from birthing chair use in a midwife-led care center. She also served as a session chair for two scientific sessions on professional development and mental health.

Furthermore, she actively contributed to a special ICM session organised by the Sydney Group and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on “Private Midwifery Practice: Barriers, Enablers, and Pathways to Sustainable Operations.” During the discussion, she shared Bangladesh’s experiences and perspectives on strengthening private midwifery services, expanding access to quality maternal healthcare, and creating sustainable pathways for midwives to practice independently.

On 6th July 2026, Bangladesh Midwifery Society (BMS) Organised a **National Level Advocacy Workshop*. The workshop was graced by the Honorable Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, the Director General of the Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery Dil Afroza, the Registrar of the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council Halima Akter, Country representative from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Bangladesh Catherine Breen Kamkong, and many other distinguished stakeholders from the health sector, representatives from BRAC Institute of Nursing & Midwifery.
The workshop concluded successfully through insightful speeches, constructive discussions, and a shared commitment to strengthening maternal healthcare in Bangladesh.

🍀 The key discussions focused on promoting **safe motherhood**, reducing **unnecessary cesarean sections**, and creating an enabling environment for **normal vaginal birth**. Emphasis was placed on ensuring quality labour rooms in all private hospitals and clinics across the country, while reinforcing the vital role of skilled midwives in improving maternal and newborn health outcomes. The government also highlighted its plan to recruit a significant number of healthcare professionals nationwide, with skilled midwives expected to play a central role in this initiative.

We firmly believe that ensuring quality labour rooms, an adequate number of skilled midwives, and evidence-based maternity care in every hospital can significantly reduce unnecessary cesarean sections. This will not only improve the health and well-being of mothers and newborns but also reduce the financial burden of healthcare on families.

🍀 The most important challenge now is the effective implementation of these commitments. If translated into action, they have the potential to build a healthcare system where every woman receives safe, respectful, and high-quality maternity care, and where normal birth is promoted as the first and preferred option whenever clinically appropriate.

Together, let us continue advocating for respectful, evidence-based maternity care and a stronger midwifery workforce to ensure safer motherhood for every woman in Bangladesh.

কেউ যদি NHRDF-এর আওতাধীন General Caregiving Level 2 কোর্সটি সরকারিভাবে সম্পূর্ণ বিনামূল্যে করতে চান তাহলে কয়েকদিনের ভিতর জানাতে হবে।

আগামী ২৫ তারিখে আমাদের নতুন একটি ব্যাচ শুরু হবে। বর্তমানে এই ব্যাচে এখনও কয়েকটি আসন খালি রয়েছে।
আপনি বা আপনাদের পরিচিতদের মধ্যে যদি এমন কেউ থাকেন, যে শেখার প্রতি আগ্রহী এবং সপ্তাহে ৬ দিন (শনিবার–বৃহস্পতিবার), প্রতিদিন সকাল ৯টা থেকে দুপুর ২টা পর্যন্ত নিয়মিত ক্লাসে অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারবে, তাহলে আমাদেরকেে আগামী দুই এক দিনের মধ্যে জানান।

আপনার একটি রেফারেন্স একজন মানুষের জন্য নতুন দক্ষতা অর্জন, কর্মসংস্থানের সুযোগ সৃষ্টি এবং একটি উজ্জ্বল ভবিষ্যতের পথে এগিয়ে যাওয়ার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মাধ্যম হতে পারে।

কোর্স শেষে ১২০০০ টাকা দেয়া হবে। কিন্তু শর্ত হলো কোর্সটি ৩ মাস নিয়মিত করতে হবে।
