Central Women's College is the pioneer among the private Girls' College in the Dhaka city and the third in Bangladesh. The first initiators were late Prof. Abdul Matin and his very capable and worthy wife Begzadi Mahmuda Nasir, who is also the Founder Principal of the college. Along with them were Sayed Azizul Huq, the then commerce minister of Pakistan and Begum Afifa Huq, Dr. M.N. Huda, the Head of the deptt. of Economics, Dhaka University and Begum Kulsum Huda, Prof, Dr. Fatema Sadegue of Arabic Department of Dhaka University and the Founder Vice Principal Begum Rokeya Khatoon. The then Governor of East Pakistan Shere-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque was the first Chairman of the College Governing Body for two and a half years. Many GB meetings were held in Bangabhavan. The debut class of the college was held in Banglabazar Govt. girls High School. For that the college will remain eternally grateful to the then Head Mistress of the School, Mrs. Lutfunnessa Chowdhury. Thirty four students, few honorary teachers and 26 thousand taka were the only resources of the college. 16 thousand taka was donated by Shere-Bangla A.K Fazlur Haque and Tk. 10 thousand by Mr. Adamjee, a prominent businessman of the country. The college campus was shifted from Banglabazar school to Shakti Oushadhalaya building, then to the house of Roy Bahadur Pankaj Ghosh in Wiseghat and then to Lalkutti, After traveling a lot the college authority ultimately bought its own land in 1964. On November, 1966 the college building was founded on 3.25 acresof land in 13/2 Avoy Das lane. Tikatuly, Dhaka 1203. The foundation was laid by Khan Bahadur Abdur Rahman Khan. The college launched its Degree Course in 1957, I.Sc in 1964, B.Sc in 1968, I.Com and B.Com in 1998. Honours course in Management was opened in 2001 and in English, Political Science and Accounting in 2005. Most of the students belong to the middle class and lower middle class families and their cognative level of merit is average. To give them an easy access to the horizon of an enlightened and developed world they need higher education and this college provides them with this opportunity. Classes run on a proper schedule. The students are bound to sit for two tutorial exams in every month. The evaluated scripts are sent to the guardians and if any student's grade becomes lower the teacher counselor meets the respective guardian. Two sessional exams are held in every year. A student's merit is evaluated on the basis of the average marks of the tutorial and sessional exams. Special classes are taken in English, Physics and Chemistry thrice a week after the test exam. It is to be noted that very few students with good grades get themselves admitted into the college. But when we compare their H.S.C results with S.S.C results it becomes very apparent that about 80% to 85% students become successful in upgrading their results.
