The IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) BRAC University Student Branch Chapter, in collaboration with the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), BRAC University, BSRM School of Engineering, and BRAC University Electrical & Electronics Club (BUEEC), successfully organized a seminar on the Bangladesh Power System.

The seminar featured ๐——๐—ฟ. ๐— . ๐—™๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜‡๐˜‚๐—น ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—ฟ ๐—ž๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป, Professor and Director of the Center for Energy and Logistics (CEL), BRAC University, who shared valuable insights into the technical, economic, and policy dimensions of Bangladeshโ€™s evolving power sector.

With an enthusiastic participation of ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€, the session explored key topics including power generation, transmission and distribution, grid operation, grid frequency, renewable energy integration, nuclear power, and smart grid technologies. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of renewable energy in shaping the future of Bangladeshโ€™s power sector.

The session was highly interactive, with Dr. Khan engaging directly with students and faculty members, asking questions and responding to their queries throughout the seminar. The Q&A session further allowed participants to explore important issues surrounding Bangladeshโ€™s energy mix, power generation, electricity tariffs, and the role of nuclear energy.

โšก IEEE PES BRACU Industrial Visit to DPDC SCADA Center โšก

The IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) BRAC University Student Branch Chapter, in collaboration with the BRAC University Electrical and Electronic Engineering Club (BUEEC), successfully organized an industrial visit to the DPDC SCADA Center, Katabon which is one of the key facilities supporting the monitoring and operation of Bangladeshโ€™s power distribution network.

This marked the first industrial tour organized by IEEE PES BRACU, providing our members with a valuable opportunity to move beyond the classroom and gain firsthand exposure to modern power system operation.

Following a registration form circulated through the IEEE PES BRACU Student Branch Messenger group, participants were selected based on the announced selection criteria. A total of 12 IEEE PES members and 11 BUEEC members participated in the visit.

During the visit, the participants gained valuable insights into the SCADA-based control and monitoring system, real-time power system operation, control room practices, operational protocols, and various state-of-the-art technologies employed in modern power distribution. The session provided a practical understanding of how monitoring, communication, control, and operational decision-making are integrated to ensure reliable and efficient power system management.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the BRAC University Electrical and Electronic Engineering Club (BUEEC) for their cooperation and collaboration in making this industrial visit a success. We hope this initiative will serve as the beginning of many more collaborative opportunities between IEEE PES BRACU and BUEEC in the future.

A special thanks to the DPDC SCADA Center team for providing our students with such an insightful and enriching learning experience.

This visit to a Key Point Installation(KPI) required a great deal of documentation and government procedure which was successfully arranged and approved from the involved authority by the

Originally planned as an in-person seminar, the event was moved online due to adverse weather conditions.
