Faculties from the Department of Architecture, Southeast University, have received two Best Paper Awards at the 4th International Conference on Trends in Architecture & Construction (ICTAC 2026), organized by the University Institute of Architecture, Chandigarh University.
The awardee faculties are - Dr. Masud Ur Rashid, Ar. Syed Monirul Islam, Ar. Abdullah Al Amin, Ar. Jeba Fowziyah Muniat and Ar. Shariar Alam Santo. The awards recognize the quality, originality, relevance, and contribution of the presented research to the conference theme and academic discussions.

The Best Paper Awards were received for the following research:

“Evaluating the Environmental Performance of Bashirul Haq’s Residential Architecture Through Digital Environmental Simulation”

“Community-Centric and Sustainable Regeneration in High-Density Marketplaces: The Case of Farashganj, Old Dhaka”

The recognition reflects the university’s contribution to contemporary architectural research and highlights the academic achievements of its faculty and researchers on an international platform. The Department of Architecture congratulates all the authors on this notable achievement and their valuable contribution to ICTAC 2026.

Alumni Achievement | SEU Department of Architecture

We are delighted to share that Md. Hasibul Alam Sampod, an alumnus of the Department of Architecture, Southeast University, has received an Honourable Mention in the 2026 SMALL Project BIG Impact Challenge for the project “Flowing Grounds.”
The project explores how a rural healthcare facility in Bangladesh can become more than a physical structure—creating a welcoming, resilient space that responds to flooding, climate vulnerability, resource scarcity, and the everyday needs of the community.
Through its focus on continuity of care, community connection, and harmony with nature, Flowing Grounds presents a thoughtful approach to resilient rural healthcare architecture.
Congratulations to our alumnus Hasibul Alam Sampod and the project team at Choukath Architects on this wonderful achievement! We are proud to see our alumni contributing meaningfully to contemporary architectural practice and discourse.

On August 31, 2026, students from the Interior Design studio of the Department of Architecture, Southeast University, visited Akij Bashir Group as part of their market study. The aim was to give students hands-on exposure to interior design materials. The visit included a brief discussion session on Akij Bashir Group's sustainable manufacturing practices, followed by a guided tour of their tiles, boards, and sanitaryware inventory. Connecting students with industry-leading brands helps them develop their designs with more practical insight. The studio is led by Ar. Latifa Sultana and Ar. Kamrul Huda Plaban.

Southeast University at IDRiM 2026, Bali, Indonesia
Shariar Alam Santo, Lecturer, Department of Architecture, Southeast University, participated in the 16th International Conference of the Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRiM) Society 2026, held in Bali, Indonesia, from 5–9 September 2026.
Representing the Department of Architecture, Southeast University, he contributed to the conference through four research presentations—two as presenting author and two on behalf of the respective research teams, including three oral presentations and one poster presentation.

Students of Level 2, Term 1 (2-1) of the Department of Architecture, Southeast University, visited the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed-CRP towards understanding inclusive design and accessibility for all.
The visit began with an insightful presentation by Ms. Bilkis Jahan, Advocacy & Networking Officer, who gave the students an overall understanding of CRP, its rehabilitation process, and the wide range of services and support provided to people with different abilities.
The students then explored several facilities and observed different activities and support systems firsthand, including- William & Marie Taylor Inclusive School, Supportive Seating Unit & Appropriate Paper-Based Technology Unit, Prosthetics & Orthotics Department, Halfway Hostel, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Department. The experience allowed the students to move beyond drawings, dimensions, standards, and space requirements and encounter the human realities behind inclusive design.
Our sincere gratitude to Ms. Bilkis for arranging and coordinating this meaningful visit, and to the entire CRP team and volunteers for their warmth, patience, and thoughtful guidance throughout the tour. Your support made the learning experience truly valuable for our students.
Special thanks to Associate Professor Syed Monirul Islam, Studio Guide, for taking the initiative to arrange this important learning experience. The tour was guided by Khairun Nahar and Shariar Alam Santo, Lecturers of the Department of Architecture.
We hope this experience will stay with our students—not merely as information gathered from a visit, but as an opportunity to become more empathetic designers and more human-centred architects, contributing towards a built environment that is truly inclusive and accessible for all.

The Department of Architecture, Southeast University (SEU), successfully organized Colloquium 08 on “Architecture Beyond Concrete” on 15 September 2026 at the Jury Space, DoA, SEU.

The colloquium was conducted by Ar. Ahmed Istiaque Himel, whose presentation explored the intersection of architecture, cinematic visual storytelling, architectural visualization, light, framing, and spatial dynamics.

The program began with a welcome speech by Prof. Dr Masud Ur Rashid, Chairman of the Department of Architecture, who welcomed the speaker and participants. The session was hosted by Ar. Mashudur Rahman Fahim, In-Charge of the Colloquium.

Faculty members and students of the Department of Architecture attended the session and actively engaged in the discussion on new approaches to architectural representation and visual storytelling.

Ahmed Istiaque Himel is an advertising filmmaker and architect whose work bridges the disciplines of spatial design and cinematic visual storytelling. His approach explores the intersection of narrative filmmaking and architectural visualization, utilizing light, framing, and spatial dynamics to create compelling visual experiences. Ahmed holds a Master’s in Film and Television Production from the University of Portsmouth, a Postgraduate Diploma in Film and Television Production from Dhaka University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Asia Pacific.
Drawing on his multidisciplinary background, he actively merges technical architectural precision with commercial film production. His foundational understanding of built environments allows him to craft narrative-driven commercials and highly realistic architectural visualizations, effectively translating complex spaces into engaging on-screen stories.

Prof. Dr. Masud Ur Rashid, Chairman, Department of Architecture, Southeast University, is representing Bangladesh at the 46th ARCASIA Council Meeting, being held on 9–10 September 2026 in Agra, India.

He is participating as part of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) delegation, alongside Prof. Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed, President, IAB, and Ar. Mahfuzul Haq Zaglul, Vice President, IAB.

The Council Meeting brings together architectural institutions and professional organisations from across Asia to discuss architectural education, professional practice, regional collaboration, and the future of the profession.

Prof. Dr. Masud Ur Rashid’s participation highlights the active engagement of Bangladesh’s architectural academia and professional community in regional dialogue and cooperation, further strengthening Bangladesh’s presence in the Asian architectural forum.

We are proud to see our Chairman representing Bangladesh at such a prestigious regional platform.
