The Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka, in collaboration with Bangladesh Bank and Dutch-Bangla Bank, successfully organized an Awareness Program on Bangla QR on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Professor Dr. Abdullah Faruque Multipurpose Conference Room, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka.

The program was graced by Md. Mostaqur Rahman, FCMA, Governor, Bangladesh Bank, as the Chief Guest, while Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, University of Dhaka, inaugurated the event. Professor Dr. Mahmood Osman Imam, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, and Mr. Md. Ahteshamul Haque Khan, Managing Director & CEO, Dutch-Bangla Bank, attended as Special Guests.

The program was presided over by Professor Md. Maksudur Rahman Sarker, FCMA, Chairman, Department of Accounting, while Ms. Ishter Mahal, Director, BBA Program, hosted the event.

Participants were introduced to the features and benefits of Bangla QR and its interoperable digital payment system, with a particular focus on promoting secure, convenient, and accessible digital transactions. The program also featured a live transaction demonstration, an informative awareness presentation, and an interactive question-and-answer session.

Faculty members, students, and officers of the Department, along with distinguished guests, participated in the program. The initiative provided an important platform for enhancing awareness of secure digital payments and supporting Bangladesh's transition toward a cashless and Smart Bangladesh.

The Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka, is delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) on 30 July 2026, marking another significant milestone in strengthening collaboration between academia and the accounting profession.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Professor Md. Maksudur Rahman Sarker, FCMA, Chairman, Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka, and a distinguished delegation from ICMAB comprising Mr. Md. Kausar Alam, FCMA, President; Mr. S. M. Zahir Uddin Haider, FCMA, Vice President; Mr. Monjur Md. Shaiful Azam, FCMA, Secretary; and Professor Dr. Md. Musfiqur Rahman, FCMA, Treasurer. Representing the Department were Associate Professor Ishter Mahal, Director, BBA Program; Professor Dr. Dhiman Kumar Chowdhury, Coordinator, Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) Program; and Professor Dr. Md. Monzur Morshed, Director, Executive MBA (EMBA) Program.

This partnership represents an important step toward closer integration between academic education and professional qualifications. Under the agreement, eligible students of the Department of Accounting will be entitled to exemptions in the ICMAB professional examinations, subject to the Institute's rules and regulations. Students with a minimum CGPA of 3.25 may receive exemptions of up to 10 subjects in the BBA program, 7 subjects in the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) program, and 5 subjects in the Executive MBA (EMBA) program.

The Department looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with ICMAB that will broaden professional opportunities for its students, strengthen industry–academia linkages, and help develop the next generation of highly skilled accounting and finance professionals.

The BBA Program Office of the Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka, successfully organized a masterclass titled “Behind the Numbers: A Practitioner's Guide to Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination” for the students of the BBA 29th Batch on July 27, 2026, at the Professor Dr. Abdullah Farouk Multipurpose Hall, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka.

The session commenced with a welcome speech by Associate Professor Ms. Ishter Mahal, Director of the BBA Program. The masterclass was conducted by Ms. Rumana Ferdous Mou, CFE, Manager, Market Operations, Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC, who shared valuable practical insights into forensic accounting, fraud examination, and the application of investigative techniques in detecting and preventing financial fraud.

Faculty members of the Department were also present and participated in the session alongside the students, making the event an engaging and enriching learning experience.

The interactive masterclass provided participants with a deeper understanding of the evolving role of forensic accounting in today's corporate environment and offered valuable perspectives from professional practice.

The Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka, successfully organized the Freshers’ Reception Ceremony for the 18th Batch of the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) Program on July 11, 2026, at the Virtual Classroom, MBA Building, Faculty of Business Studies.

The event was graced by Professor Dr. Mahmood Osman Imam, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Md. Kausar Alam, FCCA, ACA, FCS, FCMA, President of ICMAB, Group CFO of Shun Shing Group Bangladesh, and Director of Janata Bank, attended as the Special Guest. Mr. Arifur Rahman, FCCA FCA, CEO, Emerging Credit Rating Ltd.& Member -
ACCA Bangladesh MA, and Mr. Mohammad Tanvir Hossain, FCCA, ACMA (UK), CGMA, Head of Finance and Accounts, SMC Enterprise Ltd. Bangladesh, and Member of the ACCA Bangladesh MAC, also joined the program as Special Guests.

***Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka Signs MoU with ICSB.***

The Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka, and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, 9 July 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening collaboration between academia and the professional community.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Department by Professor Md. Maksudur Rahman Sarker, FCMA, Chairman of the Department, and on behalf of ICSB by Mr. Hossain Sadat, FCS, President of the Institute.

Under this partnership, BBA graduates of the Department of Accounting will receive exemptions from 10 subjects of the ICSB professional program, creating new opportunities for students to pursue professional qualifications.

The MoU also aims to foster long-term collaboration in the areas of professional education, research, training, knowledge exchange, and capacity building, thereby strengthening the link between academic learning and professional practice.

The Department looks forward to a fruitful partnership with ICSB that will further enhance the professional development and career prospects of its students.

The Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka, organized a seminar titled “Mathematical Mindset” for the students of the BBA 32nd Batch.

The seminar was conducted by Professor Dr. Firoz Firozzaman, Teaching and Barrett Honor Professor, School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Arizona State University. A distinguished academic, Professor Firozzaman is also a former faculty member of the Department of Accounting, University of Dhaka, making the session particularly meaningful for both students and faculty.

The program was arranged by Ms. Ishter Mahal, Director of the BBA Program. Professor Md. Maksudur Rahman Sarker, Chairman of the Department, along with other faculty members, attended the seminar.

The interactive session encouraged students to develop analytical thinking and problem-solving skills while highlighting the importance of a mathematical mindset in academic pursuits, professional success, and everyday decision-making.
