Educational Visit to Bangladesh Bank: An Insightful Learning Experience
August 10, 2026

The Department of Economics, United International University (UIU), powered by the UIU Junior Economists’ Forum (JEF), organized an educational visit to Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh, providing students with a valuable opportunity to connect their academic learning with the practical realities of monetary policy, central banking, and the financial system of Bangladesh.
A total of 45 students, accompanied by five faculty members and a departmental official, participated in the visit. The delegation was led by Dr. Mohammed Omar Farooq, Professor and Head of the Department of Economics, with Musharrat Shabnam Shuchi, Assistant Professor and Faculty Advisor of UIU JEF, serving in an organizing role. The delegation also included Tasneem Jahan Tumpa, Assistant Professor; Tanzila Amir, Lecturer; Sayeda Chandra Tabassum, Lecturer; and Abdul Kader Mohammad Idris, departmental official.
The visit was hosted by the Chief Economist’s Unit (CEU) of Bangladesh Bank, with Dr. Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, Chief Economist, Md. Abdul Wahab, Director (Research), CEU, and Md. Rashel Hasan, Additional Director, CEU contributing to the session. Mr. Rashel Hasan conducted the session, while Mr. Wahab delivered an informative briefing on the role and functions of the central bank.
The Department of Economics, UIU, sincerely appreciates the Chief Economist’s Unit of Bangladesh Bank for hosting the delegation and for providing the students with such a thoughtful and insightful learning experience. The Department is also grateful to all the faculty members, staff, and students whose participation and efforts contributed to the success of the visit.
Overall, the Bangladesh Bank educational visit was a meaningful, engaging, and memorable academic experience for the students—one that extended learning beyond the classroom and brought economics to life through direct institutional exposure.

Press release: Field Trip to Sylhet

A three-day field trip was organized by the Department of Economics, United International University from May 13 to May 15, 2026 in Sylhet. The purpose of the trip was to provide students with practical exposure to real-life economic activities and natural resources.

During the visit, students explored tea gardens, local markets, and natural sites in Sylhet. They learned about the importance of the tea industry, tourism, and regional trade in the local economy.

The trip helped students connect theoretical knowledge with real-world experience and enhanced their understanding of economic activities. Overall, it was an educational and memorable experience for all participants.

Departmental Meeting of the Department of Economics

A departmental meeting of the Department of Economics was held on 28 April 2026, bringing together a remarkable number of students and faculty members in an engaging and insightful interactive session. The meeting served as an important platform for strengthening communication between students and faculty while fostering a collaborative academic environment within the department.

During the session, various academic and co-curricular matters were discussed, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and offer constructive suggestions for the continued development of the department. Faculty members addressed students' concerns and provided valuable guidance regarding academic progress, research activities, career development, and upcoming departmental initiatives.
