Founded in 1978, it was originally known as Huizhou Teacher's College until February of 2002, when it was given university status and became Huangshan University. At present, the University is made up of 12 schools offering 48 majors covering arts, history, science, pedagogy, engineering, agronomy, management, law, and many others. Tourism management, Huizhou traditional culture research, environm
ent science and language studies are the school’s major disciplines, both in teaching and research. Huangshan University boasts two campuses within the city, totaling about 120 hectares. The buildings are large and modern, complete with advanced teaching equipment. The University library has a collection of more than 1,100,000 volumes, and is one of the largest libraries in Anhui Province. In recent years, the University has been carrying out a rapid construction plan, which is changing the appearance of the University everyday. The facilities for teaching and research, as well as student facilities for living and recreation are constantly improving. As part of the university’s commitment to providing high-quality education, HSU has taken great efforts to build a well-structured and qualified faculty of teachers. Among the 820 teaching and administrative members, 660 of them are full-time teachers, including 200 professors and associate professors, many holding doctoral degrees. In addition, the University also engages long-term foreign experts and part-time professors from famous universities such as Nanking University, USTC, etc. Huangshan University currently enrolls 16,000 full-time undergraduates. Students come from all over China including: Anhui, Zhejiang, Hebei, Shanxi, Yunnan, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi, Ningxia, etc. Huangshan University has been cooperating with many universities abroad. The university has become Sister College with 16 universities from the U.S., France, Korea, and some other countries. The cooperation programs include short-term visit and exchange, dual degree program, and exchange of teachers and students, etc.. Every year, more than 100 teachers would have the chance to pay exchange visit to universities abroad. Starting from 2006, Huangshan University began enrolling international students to study here. The International Communication Center is set up to be responsible for the study and life of the international students. Since its establishment, the University has graduated more than 50,000 students. Graduates are noted for their professionalism and their all-around competence in their selected vocational field. The employment rate of Huangshan University ranks among the highest of all colleges and universities of the same level throughout the province.
