📣 Advanced UAV Mapping & Data Analytics Training

The Center for Climate Change and Disaster Resilience (CDR), NSU is organizing hands-on drone training designed to take you from flight to real-world insights.

Training Goal:
Build end-to-end skills in UAV surveying and geospatial data processing to generate accurate maps, elevation models, and actionable insights for disaster management, environment, and infrastructure applications.

Skills You Will Gain:
• Plan and execute UAV survey missions
• Process drone data (Orthomosaic, Point Cloud, DEM/DSM)
• Work with LiDAR and advanced geospatial datasets
• Apply drone data in real-world analysis and decision-making
Hands-on Experience
Participants will have the opportunity to fly and work with DJI Matrice 350 RTK equipped with Zenmuse L2 LiDAR sensor

Training Dates: 24 April, 8, 9, 15, 16 May
Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Venue: NSU

Training Fee:

A full circle moment for ESM!
We are thrilled to announce that this semester, our very own alumna, Ms. Rania Jamal, has joined ESM as a full-time Lecturer—a role that marks a deeply meaningful and long-awaited milestone in her journey. Rania’s time at ESM as an undergraduate student was filled with experiences that shaped her not only professionally, but also on a profoundly personal level.

She believes that joining the Decoupling Lab during the peak of her undergraduate research proved to be a pivotal turning point, grounding her firmly in her pursuit of academia and research. To those around her, however, it was always evident that she carried an extraordinary passion for her academic goals. With the encouragement and unwavering support of her beloved professors, family, and friends, Rania went on to earn a Master of Science in Environmental Science, with a concentration in Energy and Climate Science, from Indiana University Bloomington—home to one of the oldest and largest Environmental Science graduate programs in the United States.

Today, Rania is delighted to return to her roots as a well-experienced academic and researcher, eager to give back to the community that helped her flourish. As a recent alumna herself, she understands the nuances of navigating student life within the department and is ready to mentor her students with the same care, guidance, and generosity she was fortunate to receive during her time at ESM.

🎉 Big news from the ESM family! 🎉

A huge round of applause for our exceptional graduate, Mahinoor Ekram, for being awarded the prestigious Norwegian Government Scholarship (NORSTIP)!

Mahinoor, who graduated from our BSc in Environmental Management program with Summa Cum Laude honors, will be pursuing her Master of Philosophy in Peace and Conflict Transformation at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Her research will focus on the critical area of environmental and resource conflicts and negotiations, building on the knowledge she gained right here at ESM.

This incredible opportunity was made possible through the collaboration between the Southasian Institute of Peace and Governance (SIPG) at NSU and the Centre for Peace Studies (CPS) at UiT.

We are so proud of Mahinoor's achievement and wish her the very best in her studies. Her success is an inspiration to us all! 🌍✨

We are proud to share that Sadin Ezaz Choudhury, one of our graduate students from ESM, NSU is currently participating in a prestigious research exchange program in Nepal.

For the last 2 months, Sadin has been working at Kathmandu University’s Renewable and Sustainable Energy Lab (RSEL). Professor Biswas Karabi Farhana nominated him for this study under the academic collaboration within the ForHimSDG Research Exchange program of Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (P*K), Germany.
Sadin's research focuses on decentralized renewable energy systems and green financing frameworks – critical issues for South Asia’s energy transition and climate resilience.

It’s always inspiring to see our students contributing to global climate solutions and representing ESM-NSU on international platforms.
