Successful Completion of the Webinar on the 2025 Human Trafficking Ordinance

The Department of Criminology and Police Science (CPS), University of Chittagong, successfully organized an online talk today, June 9, 2026, titled "Will the 2025 Human Trafficking Ordinance Make a Real Difference: Assessing its Effectiveness in Protecting Victims and Combating Trafficking."

The academic session was chaired and elegantly moderated by the honorable Chairman of the Department, Moumita Paul, Assistant Professor, Department of Criminology and Police Science, University of Chittagong.

The webinar featured two distinguished scholars who provided comprehensive insights into the contemporary legal and institutional frameworks surrounding human trafficking:

Dr. Kanij Fatima (Lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Thomas More Law School) delivered an extensive presentation focusing on the Legal Perspective, critically evaluating the statutory provisions and rights of victims under the proposed ordinance.

Khandaker Farzana Rahman (Associate Professor, Department of Criminology, University of Dhaka, & PhD Student, University of Illinois Chicago) offered a compelling analysis from the Criminal Justice Perspective, addressing systemic enforcement mechanisms, challenges, and policy implications.

The event was graced by the distinguished presence of all faculty members of the CPS department. Furthermore, students across all academic batches actively participated, engaging the speakers in a highly interactive and thought-provoking Q&A session.

With great enthusiasm and spirited energy, the Indoor Games of the Department of Criminology and Police Science-2026 officially began today. The event was inaugurated by our respected Chairman, Moumita Paul Madam, along with Mazharul Islam Sir.
The convenor of the Indoor Games Committee, Prakash Chandra Roy Sir as well as Saidur Rahaman sir delivered the welcome speech and shared inspiring words for the participants. Moumita Madam also shared a very inspiring speech, encouraging everyone to participate with unity and confidence.
The event organized by the 3rd year students, Sleuths-06.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Criminology and Police Science for taking several remarkable and research-oriented initiatives that will undoubtedly inspire students to engage more actively in academic research.

Following the application submitted by the Fourth Batch students, the department, through the sincere cooperation and thoughtful consideration of the respected faculty members, has reduced the CGPA requirement for thesis enrollment from 3.50 to 3.25. This decision reflects the department’s commitment to creating a more inclusive and research-friendly academic environment where more students can participate in scholarly work and develop their research potential.

Furthermore, in response to another application from the Fourth Batch, thesis supervision has now been opened to all faculty members of the department. As a result, students will have greater opportunities to pursue their research interests enthusiastically and work under supervisors aligned with their academic focus.

Another highly commendable initiative is the introduction of thesis proposal presentations before all faculty members of the department for the first time. This platform is proving to be extremely beneficial for students, as it allows us to receive constructive feedback, identify research gaps, improve methodological aspects, and gain valuable guidance on how to strengthen the quality of our research. Such academic interactions are directly contributing to the enhancement of our research skills and scholarly understanding.

These progressive and student-friendly decisions will undoubtedly encourage students to become more research-oriented and increase their participation in research-based academic and professional fields in the future. We sincerely believe that such initiatives will strengthen the research culture within the department and create a more academically vibrant environment for upcoming scholars.

Finally, we extend our deepest respect and sincere appreciation to all the respected teachers of the department for their dedication, support, and continuous efforts to promote research among students.

Thank you for believing in the potential of your students and for building a pathway where curiosity transforms into knowledge and research transforms into impact.

From campus chaos to coastal wave — CPS Tour 2026 was truly one for the books. 🌊✨

A perfect 2 days, 1 night getaway filled with laughter, friendship, adventure, and unforgettable memories. We stayed at Camp in Cox, enjoyed delicious meals, relaxed at the private beach, and spent the afternoon playing football by the sea. The evening came alive with games, raffle draws, and a cultural night full of songs, fun, and memories. 🎶⚽🎉

Day 2 took us on an adventure ride by chander gari to Kakra Beach and Shamuk Beach. We enjoyed local seafood at Sea King Restaurant before visiting Zero Point. On the way back, we stopped at Shamlapur Beach and Sugandha Beach for photos, sea breeze, and one last moment with the waves. Shopping at Burmese Market made the trip even more complete. 🏖️📸🛍️

With tired bodies but full hearts, we returned to campus carrying countless memories, stronger bonds, and stories we’ll cherish forever.
It's not just a trip, but an experience. 💌

Heartfelt thanks to our respected teachers for joining us and making even more special with their presence, support, and cheerful participation. 🩵

The Department of Criminology, University of Chittagong proudly shares the remarkable achievement of it's student, Cadet Sergeant Swapnil Fariha Promi, who represented Bangladesh as a Cadet Ambassador in the Youth Exchange Program (YEP) Maldives under the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC).

During this prestigious international engagement, the Bangladeshi delegation participated in a series of high-level official visits, professional trainings and strategic interactions that significantly enriched their academic, diplomatic and leadership experience.

As part of their exposure to national security and law enforcement frameworks, the delegation visited the Headquarters of the Maldives Police Service and held a meeting with the Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, gaining valuable insight into policing strategies, security management and institutional coordination.

The program included an operational and educational tour to Viligili Island and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC), where delegates received advanced practical training on fire prevention and emergency response. Live demonstrations conducted by professional firefighters and fire extinguishing teams provided hands-on insight into effective fire control, maritime safety protocols and coordinated rescue operations.

The delegation also paid courtesy visits to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defence, fostering mutual understanding in education, youth development and defence cooperation. A distinguished meeting was held with the Commanding Officer of the Maldives National Cadet Corps (MNCC), along with interactions with the Honourable Minister of State and the Honourable Minister of Defence. The delegates were further honoured to meet the Chief of Defence Force of the Maldives National Defence Force, where discussions emphasized discipline, leadership and regional collaboration.

A gracious Dinner Night hosted by the Commandant of MNCC reflected the strong bonds of friendship and hospitality between Bangladesh and the Maldives. The program culminated in the Passing Out Parade at the Girifushi Training Centre, where badges were formally received—symbolizing the successful completion of training and the spirit of international camaraderie.

Amidst these official engagements, the delegates also visited several remarkable islands and notable locations across the Maldives, experiencing its rich culture and natural beauty. Throughout the program, the Bangladeshi cadets and officers were received with great honour and were accorded a warm and respectful farewell at the conclusion of the tour.

The Department of Criminology takes immense pride in the exemplary representation demonstrated by Cadet Sergeant Swapnil Fariha Promi. Her participation in this international exchange reflects the department’s commitment to leadership, discipline, global engagement, and academic excellence.

We are deeply saddened to share that the father of our 4th-year student, Jaker Hossain, has passed away today at 11:30 AM.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un

His Janaza will be held today after Asar Salah.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jaker and his family. May Allah (SWT) grant his father the highest place in Jannah and give the family strength and patience during this difficult time.
