In 2000 , Faculty of Agriculture was established at UNIVERSITY OF RAJSHAHI to develop agriculture of northern region part of the bangladesh. In this result two department "AGRONOMY & AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION and FISHERIES & AQUACULTURE " were born under the faculty of agricult
ure. of agronomy & agricultural extension was kicked off of its official activities. In the session 2000 - 2001 first took admit of 20 students by admission test and the class was opened in the third science building. DR. Golam Kabir was the first chairman of the dept. . Chairman sir and with 2 teacher are started the class of the dept. and then it is gradually advanced. In order to create pure agriculturist the dept. follows international syllabus when it was modified and it provides B.Sc.Ag.Hons. Next, it is opened MS in Agronomy & MS in Agricultural extension in 2006. then in 2015 , MS in Crop Botany and last updately MS in Genetics & plant Breeding has been opened in december 2015. is highly qualified and most of them have foreign degree in agricultural branches and some are now stay in abroad for higher studies. Now it is 2015, in this 15 yrs, dept. has many glorious achievement. the gradute of the dept. working gorgeously in every sectore like agriculture cadre, admin cadre , bank officer , scientific officer etc. There have a vast volume of research field under the dept. every student researches in various sector in MS session. At present as the first research "plasma treatment in cereal and vrious crop " in bangladesh are conducting in this dept. There are also other applied researches are conducting like crop physiology, micropropagation & hybridization of different crop, biofertilizer etc. Hopefully the dept. Agronomy & Agril. Ext. will be the complete package to study and application of agriculture.
