Successfully organized the combined Prize Giving Ceremony of the AutoCAD Competition by the Civil Engineering Innovation Club (CEIC) and the Waste to Wealth Competition by the Environment & Sustainability Club (ESC).

The Department of Civil Engineering at BAUST, Saidpur always encourages students to apply practical knowledge beyond textbooks. AutoCAD is one of the most significant software tools in Civil Engineering for planning and design purposes. On the other hand, waste generation is increasing rapidly worldwide. Therefore, recycling and reusing waste materials by transforming them into valuable products has become very important. Through the Waste to Wealth competition, students gained knowledge, creativity, and environmental awareness by developing innovative projects from waste materials.

A special thanks goes to ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Œ๐. ๐Œ๐š๐ก๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐‡๐š๐ฌ๐š๐ง, Dean (In-Charge) & Head of the department of Civil Engineering, BAUST, Saidpur for his continuous guidance not only in academic fields but also in extracurricular activities. This ๐๐‹๐‚๐€ ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง is an advanced seismic monitoring system designed to record ground acceleration and earthquake-induced vibrations. The device is capable of collecting data continuously (24/7) at 100 samples per second (100 SPS). It can periodically upload data to the cloud, provide remote access to recorded information, and send warning notifications when the acceleration exceeds a predefined threshold.

The low-cost seismic network had previously been established at BUET, Dhaka; SUST, Sylhet; BAU, Mymensingh; and CUET, Chattogram. With the addition of BAUST to this network, the national earthquake monitoring and research infrastructure has become even stronger.

A seminar on earthquake risk and mitigation was held at Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST), Saidpur, on Wednesday, 20 May. The seminar, titled โ€œEarthquake Risk Scenario: Bangladesh Perspective, BNBC-2020 and Mitigation Measure,โ€ was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering at the university's seminar hall.

The chief guest of the program was Brig Gen Mohammad Mobarak Hossain Majumder, psc, Honorable Vice Chancellor, BAUST, Saidpur. The session was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan, Dean (In-charge) and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, BAUST, Saidpur.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Prof. Tahmeed M. Al-Hussaini, Civil Engg. Dept., BUET, and President of the Bangladesh Earthquake Society. He discussed earthquake risks in Bangladesh, key provisions of BNBC-2020, and various disaster mitigation strategies in detail. He also highlighted major earthquake events in Nepal, Turkey, Syria, and Japan, emphasizing Bangladeshโ€™s potential vulnerability and the importance of preparedness. He also emphasized that unplanned urbanization and poor construction practices significantly increase seismic risks in Bangladesh. He stressed the necessity of strictly following BNBC-2020, ensuring the use of quality construction materials, and developing skilled engineers to reduce earthquake-related risks and losses.

In his remarks, the chief guest stated that Bangladesh lies in a seismically vulnerable region and therefore greater awareness is essential at all levels. He highlighted that disaster impacts can be significantly reduced through modern technology, research, and sound engineering practices. He also appreciated the initiative of the Civil Engineering Department and encouraged students to gain more practical, field-oriented knowledge.

The Chairperson thanked the invited guests, faculty members, and students for their participation. He expressed hope that the discussions from the seminar would play an important role in enhancing the professional competence and awareness of future engineers.

The seminar was attended by the university Registrar, Treasurer, Controller of Examinations, along with faculty members and more than one hundred Civil Engineering students.

Later, a low-cost earthquake monitoring device, known as a โ€œlow-cost accelerometer,โ€ was installed on campus as part of modern seismic observation technology being introduced in selected areas of the country.

To explore its practical relevance to Civil Engineering, infrastructure development, underground construction systems, and geotechnical engineering, a team of faculty members from the ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‚๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ ๐„๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ , ๐๐€๐”๐’๐“, ๐’๐š๐ข๐๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ซ visited the mine on 13 May 2026.

Such industrial visits play a vital role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, while also enriching professional understanding of complex engineering operations.

Yesterday, students from the 21st and 22nd batches were taken to Shaheed Dr. Zikrul Haque Hall field to observe and participate in a Digital Surveying session. This hands-on experience helped them understand the practical application of surveying techniques in the field.
