Research Profile: Department of Economics (2025–2026)
The Department of Economics has demonstrated strong, consistent research excellence during 2025–2026, reflected in a growing number of high-quality publications, both national and international. The department’s research output highlights its commitment to evidence-based policy analysis, sustainable development, and global academic engagement. During this period, faculty members and researchers contributed to more than 45 publications, including a substantial number in internationally recognised Scopus-indexed journals published by leading publishers such as Elsevier, Springer Nature, Emerald, and PLOS.
A significant achievement of the department is its strong presence in Scopus-indexed and top-tier journals. Of the total output, 22 publications are Scopus-indexed, including 15 Q1 and 5 Q2 publications, as well as additional Q3-ranked contributions, demonstrating a balanced and impactful research portfolio. These works cover key areas such as renewable energy transition, climate change, rural transformation, gender inequality, migration and remittances, financial inclusion, education, and economic development. Notable publications in highly ranked journals such as Applied Energy, Land Degradation & Development, and Humanities & Social Sciences Communications further strengthen the department’s international visibility and academic reputation.
Overall, the 2025–2026 research achievements highlight the Department of Economics as an emerging centre of excellence in Bangladesh, with increasing global recognition and strong contributions to sustainable development research.
