On 12–13 May 2026, three students from the Brussels School of Governance were selected to participate in the NATO Model Event 2026, hosted by the University of Bologna at the NATO Stability Policing Centre of Excellence in Vicenza, Italy.

Sara Sulaj and Francesco Fontana (MA Diplomacy and Global Governance), together with Lorenzo Vernetti (MA Global Security and Strategy), joined students from leading European universities for a high-level simulation of NATO decision-making processes. Representing NATO member states in a North Atlantic Council simulation, participants engaged in negotiations and strategic discussions on hybrid warfare, cybersecurity, disinformation, and collective defence. 🗣️

The event offered a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into NATO’s consensus-based decision-making process, while developing practical skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and policy analysis.

We are proud to see our students contributing to discussions on contemporary security challenges and representing the Brussels School of Governance in such a prestigious academic and professional setting. 👏

It’s that time of year again at the BSoG where students are brewing their very own beer as part of the Undergraduate Summer Programme!

In the course The Belgian Brewery Industry in a Global Context: Business, Economics, Culture and Innovation, taught by Prof. Michelangelo van Meerten, study abroad students get hands-on experience creating beer from scratch.

Beyond the brewing process, they also dive into bottling, branding, and marketing, using Belgium’s iconic beer industry as a living case study to explore business, economics, production and innovation in practice.

It’s all about experiential learning where culture, geography and globalisation come together in one of Belgium’s most distinctive industries.

For now, the brews are quietly fermenting, and the anticipation is building to see how they turn out. 🍻

⚙️ Who shapes EU climate policy once the big decisions have been made?

Beyond headline initiatives like the European Green Deal and Fit for 55, much of EU climate governance happens through technical instruments that receive far less public attention.

In the latest episode of GreenDeal-NET podcast How Green Is Your Deal?, Brendan Moore and Jeff Rosamond join host Jana Gheuens to discuss delegated and implementing acts, and why these “behind-the-scenes” tools matter for climate policy, transparency and democratic accountability.

Often, these acts help the EU update and implement complex climate legislation more efficiently. But when technical measures start touching politically sensitive questions, such as the EU taxonomy, they raise important questions about scrutiny, expertise and democratic oversight.

Season 3 (with RETOOL, EU Climatic & BSoG) explores not only which EU climate decisions are made, but who shapes them.

How do racial gaps emerge, persist, and sometimes go unchallenged in Francophone higher education?

Drawing on her research and teaching experience across several Francophone universities, Dr. Leila Mouhib explores the often-overlooked racial dynamics shaping higher education and discusses how students and scholars can work towards greater racial justice.

On 28 May, Professor Koen Troch led a hands-on session for Master’s students in Serious Gaming and Strategic Issues (MA in Global Security and Strategy and MA in Diplomacy and Global Governance). 🎓

Using LEGO Serious Play, students explored strategic thinking, communication, and reflection by building and presenting individual towers.

The exercise highlighted an important lesson: strong careers, like strong structures, are built on solid foundations of values, goals, and stability. It also emphasized the importance of clear communication in sharing ideas 💬.

A great example of how hands-on learning supports strategic thinking and professional development at BSoG ✨
