📖 “Cartographies of Dissent: Youth Activist Spaces and Transnational Solidarity Navigating Authoritarianism in East Asia”

Published in the International Quarterly for Asian Studies (IQAS), as part of the special issue “Youth Movements against Authoritarianism in Asia.”

🌏 The article explores how youth activist spaces foster transnational solidarity across East Asia. Bringing together grassroots mobilization, socially engaged art, and digital networks, it examines how locally rooted spaces enable young activists to exchange strategies, challenge authoritarianism, and cultivate shared imaginaries of dissent across borders.

[Call For Papers] Making Knowledge: Books, Prints, and Manuscripts in Japan

From July 1-2, 2027, UCLouvain organizes an international symposium on knowledge production in Japan from the seventeenth century onward, with a specific focus on the formats in which knowledge was produced — among which are manuscripts, paintings, single-sheet prints, and illustrated books. By investigating these formats as sites of continuous exchange, the symposium explores how knowledge — practical, moral, aesthetic, literary, or otherwise — was produced, curated, circulated, and perceived, and what the relationship between these media can reveal about how knowledge moved and changed hands in early modern and modern Japan.

Scholars are welcomed to submit a paper proposal until December 4, 2026. For more information on this event and submission guidelines, see:

📣 Announcement | Exposition "Nuage infini - Golden Rectangles E-Chain" by Jay Khamtay Garnier & Philippe Leblanc

Co-organised with ULB-Culture from 2 October to 17 December 2026, two original installations – ‘Nuage infini’ and ‘Golden Rectangles E-Chain’ – are on display in the lobby of the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management on the Solbosch campus of the Université libre de Bruxelles.

This exhibit is organised to mark both the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belgium and Japan and the 10th anniversary of EASt, the ULB’s Centre for East Asian Studies.
