On Thursday, the City & Mobility research group held a writing and team-building day. With many new PhD students and postdocs joining us, it was the perfect opportunity to learn more about each other's work. 📑

The day started informally with time for questions and individual writing. In the afternoon, we focused on collaboration: after lunch, we helped each other with practical tasks, such as testing surveys. We wrapped up with a speed-dating session in which everyone had 3 minutes to present their ongoing research. Prof. Frank Witlox finished the day with an update on our group. A successful day full of new insights, captured in a great group photo. 📸

Je krijgt uitleg over de opbouw van de opleiding en brengt een bezoek aan de verschillende leszalen en labo's. Daarna is er tijd voor een gesprek met docenten, assistenten en studenten; je kan cursusmateriaal inkijken en kennismaken met verschillende toepassingen die binnen de opleiding gebruikt worden. 📢 Call for abstracts for PECSRL2026 is open!

From 7-13 September, the 31st Permanent European Conference for the Study of the Rural Landscape (PECSRL) will take place in Ghent and Spa! This biannual congress gathers landscape researchers across Europe and beyond who study mainly rural landscapes of the past, present, and future from an interdisciplinary perspective, including historical geography, landscape ecologists, social scientists, human geographers, physical geographers, historians, archaeologists, rural planners, landscape architects, landscape managers, as well as other scholars and practitioners interested in European landscapes. The conference is organised as a collaboration of Ghent University and the University of Liège.

The theme of this year's conference is: Reconciling Challenges in Landscapes. We will focus on how to understand the process of finding balance or harmony among conflicting, opposing, contradictory demands or interests in landscapes.

More than 20 sessions are planned, covering a wide range of topics and tackling different challenges in a variety of landscapes! The deadline for abstract submission is 15 April 2026.

Gisteren trokken de studenten van de 1ste Master eropuit voor een boeiende fietsexcursie door Gent, in het kader van het vak Fysisch Milieu en Duurzame Ontwikkeling 🚲🌿
Ze ontdekten hoe water de stad mee heeft gevormd én hoe de mens op zijn b***t het water naar zijn hand zette, met de aanleg van nieuwe waterlopen voor scheepvaart en economische activiteiten 💧🏙️
