Bezoek aan het Bedrijf Vandevelde met onze studenten Modetechnologie- 1ste bachelor ! Bedankt aan het team voor de warme ontvangst en de interessante dag waarbij onze studenten alweer uitgebreid kennis konden maken met de vele facetten van ons vakgebied!

Programma:

Aankomst & ontvangst in atrium Schellebelle

Round tables + bezoek aan het atelier (in 4 groepen):

Project 1: Ecodesign.

It was presentation day 🙌🏽🥳🌿💡

First year students , and of Textile Technology were given the challenge to create a valuable and sustainable textile product, starting from some leftover h**p cloth that was to be mechanically recycled.

What that end product would be was up to them. How they would producte it, too. They could have gone for spinning, knitting, weaving... But they went for the development of a textile composite material!

They demineralized, bleached, dyed, washed, sheredded, carded, mixed in other fibers (can you guess which? 😏) , created the composite using a transfer press AND 3D printed on them!

They developed a prototype for a lamp fixture/hood that does not need any non-(industrially)biodegradable components!

We are very pleased with the work they have done and the things they have learned.

We hope they are as proud of themselves as we are of them. 💪🏽🤗

Visiting the FTI-lab for Texstream later this month? You'll be able to see the product and process showcased and can meet the young makers.

🤳| 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲-𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿: Gabriel uit de opleiding modetechnologie

Een stage in de high-end modewereld? Gabriel doet het!

Hij loopt momenteel stage bij de gerenommeerde modeontwerper Tom Van der Borght, een Belgische modeontwerper die wereldwijd bekendstaat om zijn extravagante ontwerpen. Het werk van Tom Van der Borght bevindt zich op de grens tussen mode en kunst, wat zorgt voor een boeiende stage vol afwisseling.

Textile Technology
Project 1: Ecodesign

First year students of Textile Technology got handed some meters of deadstock woven h**p cloth and were told to use this as feedstock for a new product they had to develop.

At our campus, at the .lab, we were able to show them a wide array of products that can be made with (recuperated) fibers. And a lot of the machines and products needed to create them.

They had a brainstorm session, made some very cool choices and went to work. I won't spoil the finished results, but I will say that they spent hours in both the chemical lab and mechanically processing/recycling the h**p cloth.
Under expert assistance and guidance of both teaching staff and researchers, they faced this challenge head on.

We are already impressed with the progress they made, the things they learned and are super excited for their results and presentation.

Tijdens de Week Zonder Grenzen werden 2 inspirerende gastcolleges gegeven door Dr. Michela Ornati van University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), en deze werden door meer dan 110 studenten mode- en textieltechnologie gevolgd.

Touch and technology in digital fashion

👗 | Online kleding kopen zonder het te voelen. Hoe los je dat op als modemerk?
Tijdens deze sessie onderzochten studenten mode- en textieltechnologie samen met SUPSI hoe haptische technologieën de digitale mode-ervaring kunnen transformeren.
De lezing behandelde:
👉 Hoe aanraking onze kledingbeleving stuurt
👉 Haptische technologieën die in ontwikkeling zijn
👉 Uitdagingen van digitale retail in fashion & luxury
Voorbij het visuele denken in digitale mode.

From workwear to bespoke uniforms

👔 | Een uniform is veel meer dan een kledingstuk. Het is merkidentiteit, klantervaring en professionaliteit ineen.
In samenwerking met SUPSI verdiepten studenten mode- en textieltechnologie zich in deze workshop in corporate wear en uniformdesign voor luxury hospitality.
De sessie behandelde:
👉 De omvang en terminologie van de workwearsector
👉 Design- en productieprocessen van maatwerkuniformen
👉 Zelf een uniformconcept uitwerken met moodboards
Mode, functionaliteit en merkbeleving samenbrengen, dat is de uitdaging.

Today, the first year students of Textile Technology visited . A wonderful spinning mill, specialized in wool and alpaca blends. 🐑🦙🧶

Kurt was so generous with his time and expertise! 🙌🏽. We saw everything from the skirting table, over the gillbox to the cone winder. So nice for the students to see the whole process from dirty wool till beautiful yarn.

We say the difference between wool and alpaca, between good and bad quality wool, between Swifter, Heideschaap en Zwartbles.
So educational!

In het FTILAB+ loopt momenteel een onderzoek rond bodyscanning.
Hiervoor organiseert onze stagiaire Kim Lippevelde scansessies waarbij deelnemers zowel manueel gemeten worden als gescand met een 3D-bodyscanner en verschillende mobiele bodyscanningapps.

When a knitting engineering lecturer visits the knitting museum, she'll for sure stay longer than planned and leave with a bunch of detailed pictures of pretty, pretty stuff. 🙌🏽🤩.

Our student of Textile Technology, Zoë, is doing her internship at . She gets to develop samples on both the old, industrial handknitting machines as well as on their industrial electrical jacquard (Stoll CMS).

She gets the opportunity to see volunteers, with decades of experience in the textile industry, clean and repair the old beasts to get them up and running again. These are impressively skilled people with a deep understanding of both mechanics and knitting technology. Such a treat to see both the machines and the people at work.

We are grateful Zoë gets to be a part of this team during her internship.
