Het Consortium for Health Humanities, Arts, Reading and Medicine (CHARM ) organiseert een reeks dubbellezingen getiteld Introductie tot de Health Humanities.

De reeks biedt een toegankelijke introductie tot de snel groeiende, interdisciplinaire velden van de Medische en Health Humanities. In vijf thematische dubbellezingen nodigt CHARM twee gastexperts uit verschillende disciplines - onderzoek en praktijk - die hun perspectieven op zorg, gezondheid, cultuur en samenleving bundelen.

Ze staan stil bij de kansen én de vragen die ontstaan wanneer inzichten uit het ene vakgebied of de ene praktijk naar andere domeinen worden vertaald: welke nuances gaan verloren, welke nieuwe betekenissen ontstaan, en hoe kunnen disciplines elkaar versterken zonder elkaar te overschrijven?

Met deze levendige dialoog binnen de Health Humanities wil CHARM de universiteit Gent en de Stad Gent nog dichter bij elkaar brengen in het nadenken over de actuele vraagstukken rond Cultuur en Zorg die onze maatschappij vandaag én morgen mee bepalen.

🎓🏆 Winnaar Inclu-scriptieprijs bekend!
Met trots kondigen Universiteit Gent en Stad Gent aan dat Marijke Tenengbe Kaba de winnaar is van de tiende editie van de Inclu-scriptieprijs! 🎉

Haar scriptie "Wat vertellen we de kinderen?" werpt een krachtig licht op hoe ouders met een Afrikaanse migratieachtergrond hun kinderen sterken tegen racisme en sociale uitsluiting.

De jury prees haar werk voor de heldere stijl, methodologische sterkte én de indrukwekkende manier waarop het persoonlijke en academische in elkaar grijpen. Een inspirerend voorbeeld van hoe wetenschap transformerend kan zijn.

Universiteit Gent en stad Gent loven een prijs uit voor de beste en meest vernieuwende masterscriptie waarin diversiteit en inclusie een centrale rol speelt. Uit het grote aantal waardevolle en boeiende UGent-masterscripties die de jury’s hebben mogen lezen, zijn er drie genomineerden gekozen. Tijdens de prijsuitreiking krijgen de drie genomineerden de kans om hun scriptie te presenteren. De uiteindelijke winnaar wordt bekend gemaakt op de Uitreiking zelf.

De Inclu-Scriptieprijs wordt uitgereikt door schepen Bram Van Braeckevelt en vicerector Mieke Van Herreweghe. Deze uitreiking, gevolgd door een feestelijke receptie, vindt plaats in het Oostenrijks Salon van het Gentse Stadhuis.
Iedereen is welkom.

♿️Nog al te vaak ondervinden studenten en medewerkers met een functiebeperking moeilijkheden in en rond UGent-gebouwen. De afgelopen jaren is er al veel gewerkt aan het toegankelijker maken van de UGent-campussen, maar voor een echt toegankelijke universiteit hebben we iedereen nodig!

Beth A. Katz will present key insights from her original research on how the first Trump Administration swiftly and significantly reshaped the U.S. immigration landscape, impacting immigrant inclusion practitioners and their initiatives. She will also explore how a second Trump Administration might expand on its previous immigration policies and strategies.

Her findings stem from her doctoral research, which examined how government policies in the Brexit and Trump eras affected efforts to support immigrant inclusion in the U.K. and the U.S.

The study gathered input from immigrant inclusion practitioners (professionals working in various settings to welcome and integrate immigrants) who were active in both countries during these periods. Their experiences were analyzed alongside historical records and additional research to provide a deeper understanding of these policy effects.

Are you interested in student mobility, sustainability, or diversity and inclusion? Do you want to connect with peers from across Europe, exchange ideas, and contribute to meaningful discussions on these topics? The ENLIGHT Student Network Conference invites you to an engaging and collaborative experience!

🗓️ February 28 – March 1, 2025
📍 Göttingen, Germany

The ENLIGHT Student Network, composed of student representatives from 10 European universities, organizes this annual conference to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among students and PhD candidates. This year’s program will focus on 3 central themes:

1. Student Mobility – Exploring exchange opportunities within ENLIGHT, identifying available support, and discussing ways to improve the student mobility experience across institutions.

2. Sustainability – Examining how our universities are addressing environmental challenges and collaborating on ideas to create greener, more sustainable campuses.

3. Diversity and Inclusion – Working together to make ENLIGHT and our universities more inclusive, welcoming, and accessible, with a focus on shared experiences and practical solutions.

We welcome applications from motivated students and PhD candidates with a genuine interest in any of these topics. Familiarity with all areas is not required; an enthusiasm for one or more themes is all that’s needed.

Then you don’t want to miss this event! Get inspired by researchers whose work is transforming the world and leave with tools and methods that help translate research into meaningful action. ✊

💭 We’ll start the evening with an introduction by Floor Verhaeghe. She’ll explain what research with societal impact entails and discuss some inspiring examples.

🗨️After the break, there will be 2 parallel circle talks about research with impact. During the circle talks, concrete tools will be discussed to make your own (future) research impactful. You can choose beforehand if you want to talk with Floor Verhaeghe, Sarah Kasran or Jozefien De Marrée.
