We did it again!

Thanks to the talent, creativity and hard work of our students, Howest Howest IPO has once again been named Best Product & Industrial Design School by The Rookies!

What an incredible recognition for our students and our programme! This title was made possible by a great achievement: our students won 4 out of the 7 individual The Rookies awards.

🏆 Rookie of the Year – Tibo Schöning
Tibo Schöning was named Rookie of the Year for his innovative furniture design, developed together with Tosin Thompson and Laurens Van Laerhoven.

🥈 Runner-up – Erik Dooms
Erik Dooms took second place with his design portfolio.

⭐ Highly Commended – Tijn Debusschere
Tijn Debusschere received a Highly Commended recognition from the professional jury for his design portfolio and also won the People’s Choice Award.

Our students experiment, make mistakes, try again and keep pushing their designs to the next level. Their curiosity, passion and drive to keep improving make us incredibly proud.

And behind all that talent is, of course, an amazing team of lecturers who share their knowledge, experience and above all their passion for design every single day.

HOWEST STUDENTS WINS NATIONAL DYSON AWARD! 🏆

Our Industrial Product Design () and Occupational Therapy students ( ) have won a national Dyson Award with their project DIY Swimming Prosthetic! A fantastic recognition for an innovative design combining social impact, user-centred design and technology. 💙

Together with BOAS vzw and Johan Dumortier, a below-the-knee amputee, they developed an affordable swimming prosthetic specifically designed for use in the water. IPO and Occupational Therapy combined their expertise in product design, engineering and 3dprinting with comfort, functionality and user needs.

Across 4 hands-on sessions, we’ll explore how generative AI can become a meaningful part of the product design process — from research and ideation to exploration, iteration and visualisation.

We’ll experiment with different AI tools, explore new creative possibilities, and learn how to combine AI with existing design skills and methods.
