📺 De Group T Jobfair by Industria in het nieuws!

Met maar liefst 111 deelnemende bedrijven en meer dan 900 studenten was onze jaarlijkse jobbeurs in de Brabanthal gisteren een groot succes.

Samen met studentenvereniging Industria brachten we toekomstig ingenieurstalent en het werkveld dichter bij elkaar. Deze editie bevestigt opnieuw de sterke band tussen onze opleiding en de industrie.

Mens of machine? 🤖

Wat gebeurt er als improvisatietheater en artificiële intelligentie samenkomen? Dat konden enkele leerlingen uit de derde graad van het secundair onderwijs deze week ontdekken op onze campus!

In samenwerking met ERLNMYR organiseerden we het wetenschapstheater ‘Improbotics’, een unieke voorstelling waarbij het podium werd omgetoverd tot een live wetenschappelijk experiment. ✨

Een acteur … of toch een chatbot in zijn oor? Een echte turingtest, live gespeeld, vol humor, spanning en verrassende inzichten over AI en STEM.

Samen met de leerlingen doken we in de toekomst van technologie! 👀

STEM in actie op onze campus! 🦾

De leerlingen uit het vijfde middelbaar van de wetenschappelijk-wiskundige richtingen van het Heilig Hartinstituut Heverlee en Kessel-Lo nemen de komende twee weken deel aan onze STEM-workshop ‘Ontwikkel je eigen geluidsdetector’. De eerste sessies gingen gisteren van start, onder begeleiding van Gert Van Loock.

Tijdens deze workshop doorlopen de leerlingen het volledige traject: van het leren lezen van een elektronisch schema en het ontwerpen van een printplaatje tot het solderen van hun eigen, werkende geluidsdetector. 🔊

Het eindresultaat? Een zelfgemaakte detector die ze trots mee naar huis kunnen nemen!

Deze week verwelkomden we 500 middelbare scholieren uit heel Vlaanderen en Brussel op onze campus voor de introductiedag van de Solar Olympiade, een initiatief van het Innoptus Solar Team.

Tijdens hands-on workshops maakten de leerlingen kennis met STEM, en verwierven ze hun eerste basisvaardigheden in engineering en duurzaamheid. Met deze kennis gaan ze de komende maanden aan de slag om hun eigen zonnegadget of zonnewagen te ontwerpen en bouwen.

Op 8 mei tonen ze het resultaat tijdens de finaledag van de Solar Olympiade. 🏆

This week, we welcomed 500 secondary school students from across Flanders and Brussels to our campus for the Solar Olympiad Bootcamp, an initiative of the Innoptus Solar Team.

During hands-on workshops, the students were introduced to STEM and acquired their first basic skills in engineering and sustainability. In the coming months, they will put this knowledge into practice by designing and building their own solar-powered gadget or car.

8 May marks the big day: the Solar Olympiad Finals. 🏆

Een robot die rugoperaties veiliger en stralingsvrij maakt? 🤖

Het KU Leuven-onderzoeksteam Ultratopia, bestaande uit onderzoekers van onze faculteit en de Faculteit Ingenieurswetenschappen, won vorige maand de KUKA Innovation Award voor deze ontwikkeling.

De tweearmige chirurgische robot die het team ontwikkelde, kan sneller, veiliger én nauwkeuriger schroeven in de wervelkolom plaatsen. De robot werkt volledig op basis van echografie, waardoor röntgenstraling en complexe CT-opstellingen tijdens de operatie niet langer nodig zijn.

Het systeem is nog niet op de markt, maar vormt een veelbelovende stap richting veiligere rugoperaties.

A robot that makes spine surgery safer and radiation-free? 🤖

The KU Leuven research team Ultratopia, consisting of researchers from our faculty and the Faculty of Engineering Science, won the KUKA Innovation Award last month for this development.

The two-arm surgical robot developed by the team can place screws in the spine faster, safer and with greater accuracy. The robot works entirely with ultrasound imaging, which means that X-ray radiation and complex CT equipment are no longer required during surgery.

The system is not yet on the market, but it marks a promising step toward safer spine procedures.
