💡 Conference | Réfugiés Académiques et Savoirs en Exil : Dialogues, Afrique, Europe, Amérique latine

Bringing together IMISCOE member institutes across three continents — Unicamp - Universidade Estadual de Campinas in Brazil, the Laboratoire d’Études et de Recherches sur le Genre, l’Environnement, la Religion et les Migrations (GERM) in Senegal, and the Institut Convergences Migrations in France — the event aims to foster an international dialogue on refuge, exile and knowledge production.

Taking place in Dakar, Senegal, from 3 to 5 November 2026, the third edition of the conference will bring together researchers and civil society representatives from institutions around the world.

📖 PhD Workshop | Rethinking knowledge production

The Center for Migration and Societal Change - Eurac Research in Bozen/Bolzano, Italy, is now accepting applications for its PhD Workshop from 3 to 7 May 2027.

Titled "Rethinking knowledge production", the workshop will explore participatory approaches to migration research, including co-production of knowledge throughout the research cycle and the challenges of working with smaller and often overlooked communities.

The workshop is primarily intended for PhD students, though advanced master’s students, practitioners and policymakers with a strong interest in participatory migration research are also welcome to apply.

📢 2027 IMISCOE PhD School | Regional Migration Studies: Dynamics of Human Mobility, Governance and Socioeconomic Transformations

Applications for the 2027 IMISCOE PhD School are now open!

Bringing together doctoral students and senior researchers working across different regions of the world, the PhD School will take place from 13–17 September 2027 at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra - Barcelona.

The PhD School, organised by GRITIM-UPF and the EuroMedMig PhD Network, invites participants to critically examine how regions are imagined, constructed, governed and transformed through migration, and to consider the theoretical and methodological implications of studying migration beyond national boundaries.

🔹 Mini-conference | “Migrant Workers’ Pathways to Recourse: Dependence, Restriction, and the Remaking of Labour Markets Through Migration” at the 39th Annual SASE Conference, taking place from 30 June to 3 July 2027 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The mini-conference explores a central tension in contemporary labour markets: while many sectors increasingly depend on migrant workers, migration policies and employment arrangements often reinforce their insecurity and dependence. We are particularly interested in understanding when and how migrant workers can translate their essential contributions into greater security, bargaining power, collective agency, and access to recourse.

Empirically grounded contributions from diverse geographical contexts and methodological traditions are welcome, including those addressing:

🔹Migrant workers’ access to recourse, representation, and collective organising;
🔹Labour market dependence on migrant workers amid restrictive immigration policies;
🔹Employment relations, migration status, and possibilities for solidarity;
🔹Recruitment intermediaries, subcontracting, and changing migration corridors;
🔹Social protection, integration, and everyday forms of support.

The Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Concordia University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of migration politics, with a specialization in Canadian politics, public policy or public administration.

Duties include conducting research, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service to the institution. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage meaningfully in the strategic development and scholarly activities of the IRMS - Institute for Research on Migration and Society. The successful candidate will contribute to the research program of the multi-institutional Canada First Research Excellence Fund in which Concordia participates, entitled, "Canada Migrant Integration in the mid-21st Century: Bridging Divides".
