Ready to progress from individual robotic tasks to complete colorectal procedures?

During the Robotic Colorectal Course at Orsi Academy, participants follow a structured training pathway, from fundamental robotic skills to procedure-specific training in right hemicolectomy and low anterior resection.

Step by step, participants train in:

🔹 Suturing, dissection and anastomosis
🔹 Port placement and robotic set-up
🔹 Vascular control and mobilisation
🔹 Right hemicolectomy and low anterior resection
🔹 Hands-on training using isolated bowel and human cadaver models

The course applies Proficiency-Based Progression. Performance is assessed at each stage, and participants progress only after demonstrating the required level of proficiency.

From 3 to 5 February 2027, Surgical AI Days moves to a new setting: Wintercircus in Ghent.

The event will bring together professionals working at the intersection of surgery, technology and artificial intelligence.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Patrick De Greve, Managing Director of Vlerick Business School and a highly valued member of the Board of Directors of Orsi Academy.

Patrick had been closely involved with Orsi Academy from its very beginning. He believed in our mission and played an important role in the growth and development of our organisation. With his exceptional experience, strategic insight and academic background, he helped shape and professionalise Orsi Academy.

Patrick was an academic through and through. His contributions were always thoughtful and insightful, sharp when necessary, but above all constructive. He had a remarkable ability to get to the heart of complex challenges and bring people along with him in his vision.

But above all, we will remember Patrick as a wonderful and warm person with exceptional charisma. Someone people listened to when he spoke, and whose presence was always deeply felt.

We are profoundly grateful for everything Patrick has meant to Orsi Academy. His contribution will remain an enduring part of who we are today.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who held him dear.

What happens when ambitious students from across the world come together around one shared interest: the future of medicine?

This week, Junior Orsi brought 37 participants together for a three-day programme, including two intensive days at Orsi Academy filled with learning, experimenting and connecting.

The programme was built around action. Participants moved between robotic training, suturing, simulation, dissection and wet-lab exercises, turning theory into hands-on experience throughout the day.

Junior Orsi exists to bring together students from different educational backgrounds who share a strong interest in medical innovation, research and education.

New techniques were explored. Ideas were exchanged. Connections were made across universities and borders. And perhaps most importantly, participants got a closer look at the possibilities ahead of them in medicine and surgery.

Thank you to the Junior Orsi team, participants, speakers, proctors, fellows and everyone who made these days possible.

🖐️ Looking to sharpen your wrist arthroscopy skills?

Our Hands-on Wrist Arthroscopy Course gives you the opportunity to practise advanced techniques under the direct guidance of experienced faculty.

Dr. Ravi Mallina, a consultant hand and wrist surgeon from London, trained in the treatment of scapholunate ligament injuries, scaphoid non-unions and intercarpal fusions. He also practised navigation through the midcarpal joints and preparation of the STT joint surfaces for fusion.

What does it take to turn telesurgery from a technological first into safe, repeatable clinical practice?

In just over one year, Orsi Academy helped advance telesurgery across new borders, surgical specialties and forms of connectivity.

From 30 kilometres to 9,730 kilometres.
From terrestrial networks to a satellite connection.
From clinical procedures to remote simulation and live learning.
From Europe to India and Africa and back again.

Each milestone broke new ground. But meaningful progress in telesurgery is not built on distance or firsts alone.

It depends on prepared teams, clear responsibilities, reliable backup systems, repeated practice and close collaboration between clinical, technical and educational partners.

The surgeon may be remote. Surgical responsibility is not.

A lot has changed on our campus over the past few months!

What started as an empty construction site is slowly becoming a real extension of Orsi Academy. By 2027, the expansion will double our capacity and give us more space for training, collaboration and new technologies.
