The Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Andy Lee was accompanied by the Dep.Prov.G.M., Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies, his Provincial Team, Grand Officers, and serving Worshipful Commanders on their visit to the Oliver Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 751 at Freemasons' Hall, London Road, Leicester.
The lodge was opened by the Worshipful Commander, Mike Singleton, before the Prov.G.M. demanded admission and was then admitted accompanied by the Provincial Officers of the year, Grand Officers and Serving Commanders.
R.W.Bro. Andy gave a heartfelt and personal eulogy for our much beloved Pro Grand Master, M.W.Bro. John Herbert Prizeman. After which, all present stood in silent reflection to honour departed merit.
Following a number of important items of lodge business, the Commander rose to formally welcome the Provincial Grand Master and his Team. He presented the sceptre to the Prov.G.M. and offered him Noah’s Chair. On this occasion, R.W.Bro. Andy accepted both and went on to invite the Provincial Team to fill the lodge offices. They then conducted a wonderful ceremony, elevating Bro Jason Clothier in to the Royal Ark Mariner degree.
All the officers performed to a very high standard, with particular recognition later being given to the Senior Deacon, Phil Crowfoot for the manner in which he conducted the candidate around the lodge, and the Senior Warden, W.Bro. Iain Walker (Dep.Prov.G.M.) for his work and explanation of the nine steps.
The individual pieces of ritual were presented in an exemplary style, W.Bro. Martin Fletcher the Signs and Secrets, W.Bro. Peter Gibson-Leitch the Working Tools and W.Bro. Geoff Phipps the Concluding Address.
The R.W. Commander then had the lodge warrant displayed for Bro Jason, explained about the Regulations of the Order and presented copies of the Lodge and Provincial Bye Laws. The Prov.G.M. welcomed Jason to the Order in general and the Oliver Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners in particular, before directing the Senior Deacon to seat him next to the Treasurer in the lodge!
The chair and sceptre were handed back to W.Bro. Mike and he conducted the remainder of the lodge business with great aplomb.
All the brethren then enjoyed a delicious festive board where there was much enjoyment and great fellowship. A raffle and a very enjoyable game of ‘heads and tails’ led by the Dep.Prov.G.M. raised £361 for the Provincial Grand Masters Discretionary Fund.
The evenings candidate, Bro. Jason articulated what a brilliant experience he had enjoyed and thanked everyone present for the warmth of the welcome he had received.
