Em 4 de setembro, o Prof. Plínio Barbosa receberá o professor Xiaoming Jiang (Shanghai International Studies University, China), para apresentar a palestra “Cracking the Communicative Codes of Voice and Speech Prosody: Neurocognitive Bases and Applications” como parte da série Speech Prosody.
The human voice conveys far more than linguistic content. It carries rich social signals, including transient attitudes, stable identity markers, and even clues to physiological and psychological states. While speech prosody is central to interpersonal communication, prevailing neurocognitive methodologies for parsing vocal communicative codes suffer critical limitations, lacking unified multimodal experimental pipelines to connect neural activity, real-time perceptual decision-making and clinical assessment. Deciphering these multilayered vocal signals with more robust, integrated measurement systems is therefore essential for successful social interaction. This lecture presents a tripartite framework that bridges basic research with practical applications to resolve such methodological deficits, covering (1) the decoding of attitudes and inferences from vocal expressions, (2) the measurement of vocal identity from voice cues, and (3) the use of voice‐based measures as clinical biomarkers.
