Today marks this year's International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste!

Reducing food loss and waste is critical to building sustainable food systems. In Lagos, Ecotutu is tackling this challenge head-on by providing solar-powered cooling storage facilities that help small and medium-sized businesses reduce post-harvest losses.

Founder and CEO, Babajide Oluwase, shared how gaining access to the Mile 12 International Market—a key horticultural hub—was a game-changer for Ecotutu. With support from the HortiNigeria program, Ecotutu launched a 10-metric-ton cold storage facility in 2023. This breakthrough is helping sellers preserve produce, minimize losses, and increase profits. 💡🍅🥬

Com um ritual de tributo à “Mãe Terra” (Pachamama,) teve início no dia 4 de dezembro de 2023, a primeira Convenção Internacional do Solo 2023, organizada pelo Instituto Nacional de Inovação Agrária (INIA) do Ministério de Desenvolvimento Agrário e Irrigação (MIDAGRI), em aliança com a Universidade Nacional Agrária La Molina (UNALM) e a Sociedade Peruana de Ciência do Solo (SPCS), dentro do no âmbito do Dia Mundial do Solo (https://landing.inia.gob.pe/convencion_suelos/), na cidade de Lima (Peru).

O evento acadêmico, que tem como tema “Novas estratégias de fertilização e biorremediação”, tem como objetivo a transferência de novas tecnologias agronômicas e projetos de inovação relacionados com a nutrição de culturas, a recuperação de solos degradados e a gestão sustentável dos recursos naturais.

O evento, que acontece na Universidade Nacional Agrária La Molina, reúne especialistas do Brasil, Chile, México, Espanha, França e Peru. O professor do DCS/PPGCS/UFLA, Luiz Roberto Guimarães Guilherme participa do evento, representando a UFLA e o INCT em Segurança do Solo e Alimento, tendo proferido, no Dia Mundial do Solo, a conferência magistral intitulada “Tecnologías de biorremediación: Uso de fitotecnologías como alternativa sustentable para la remediación de áreas contaminadas”.
