General Description: UJA is a young (founded in 1993) and dynamic institution located in the province of Jaén, Andalusia. UJA is structured in two modern campuses (Las Lagunillas Campus, in Jaén, and LinaresScientific and Technological Campus, in Linares) equipped with advanced facilities and resources at the service of students and teaching staff. The UJA university community is made up of nearly 18,000 people, who enjoy the numerous UJA services and an intense social and cultural agenda. UJA is one of the most internationalised Spanish universities, welcoming around 2,500 international students each year (both mobility and degree-seeking students). These students have rated their experience at UJA very highly on international portals. For years, it has occupied a prestigious position in the top 5 Spanish universities with the highest funding in the Erasmus+ international Credit Mobility programme.��
International impact: The teaching quality and the intense scientific and transfer activity articulated in part through the various existing research institutes and centres far advanced studies, contribute to the fact that the UJA has been recognised as one of the best young universities in Spain (under 50 years old), being in the 201-250 range of THE Young University Ranking 2024. Furthermore, its commitment to social responsibility and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) places it among the top 200 universities worldwide, according to the prestigious 'THE Impact Rankings 2025,' making it the top university in Spain, alongside two other Spanish universities, in this area. Besides, according to the THE 2026 ranking, we are the second best university in Spain in Computer Science (top 301 worldwide), best University in Andalusia in Sciences (top 501 worldwide) and Engineering (top 501 worldwide) and are among the top 401 worldwide in Arts & Humanities and top 501 in Psychology. Exchange or semester programs with courses taught in English: MoU and specific agreements can be established between our institutions to promote exchange programs. In that sense, UJA offers more than 300 courses with tuition in English at 3 different levels, check here (short link: https://shorturl.at/aeHhx . Level 3 corresponds to english-taught courses), mostly in Business, Engineering, Experimental Sciences, Arts & Humanities. Besides, note that we do not restrict the number of ECTS international students are allowed to take and that all our international exchange students are entitled to take any course of their choice from any degree (including spanish-taught courses). Also, we provide free extensive Spanish language courses for those exchange students interested in improving their Spanish, they will just need to take a placement test at their arrival in Jaen.
Study Abroad Programme: Hispanic Studies Programme (HSP) - This in-person program offers a complete language and cultural immersion experience for higher education institutions. It can be taken in semester (300 hours) or year (600 hours) formats, requiring a minimum number of 10 participants and a signed agreement with UJA. Students typically take up to five classes per term (30 ECTS): one mandatory general course and four topic-specific courses chosen from the offering for each level. An official Transcript of records is issued. The HSP can be complemented with a cultural program and offers the opportunity to register for the official SIELE Global exam.
Summer Programme: This in-person immersive program takes place for four weeks in June and July. It combines an 80-hour intensive Spanish language and culture course (A1-C2 levels) with a rich cultural experience. A specific agreement and minimum of 10 participants are required. Students receive a certificate of achievement and have the option to officially accredit their Spanish proficiency by taking the SIELE Global exam whose certificate is internationally recognized.
Cultural Programme: To further enrich the learning experience during the Study Abroad Programme: Hispanic Studies Programme (HSP) or the Summer Programme, the University of Jaén organizes a wide range of cultural activities. The cultural packages include socio-cultural activities, guided visits, and outings to historical and cultural sites within the province of Jaén and beyond, covering destinations such as Úbeda and Baeza (World Heritage Cities), the Natural Park of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, and cities like Granada and Córdoba.
