Bettina Malnic: Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade de São Paulo, mestrado em Ciências Biológicas (Bioquímica) pela Universidade de São Paulo, doutorado em Ciências Biológicas (Bioquímica) pela Universidade de São Paulo e pós-doutorado em Neurociências na Harvard Medical School. Tem experiência na área de Bioquímica e Biologia Molecular, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: GPCRs, receptores olfatórios, transdução de sinal e regulação de expressão gênica. Hoje é Professora Titular do Departamento de Bioquímica da Universidade de São Paulo. Pesquisadora 1D CNPq.
Biosketch: "I received my undergraduate education in Biological Sciences at the University of São Paulo, where I first got interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of the biological processes. I next decided to pursue my graduate studies in molecular biology, and joined Fernando Reinach’s laboratory, at the department of Biochemistry, University of São Paulo. The aim of my Ph.D thesis was to determine the molecular mechanisms of calcium dependent regulation of muscle contraction by troponin, particularlly by troponin T. My interests in Biology have always been eclectic, and for my post-doctoral studies I decided that I would pursue a subject different from the one pursued during my Ph.D, but still having molecular biology as the major background. I also decided that Boston, USA, would be the best place I could be for a post-doc. In 1996 I applied and was offered a post-doc position in Linda Buck’s laboratory, at the department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School. I was attracted by the combination of molecular biology and neuroscience, which should certainly contribute to the understanding of several aspects of neuronal processing that remain unsolved. At the end of 2000 I joined the department of Biochemistry at the University of São Paulo as an Assistant Professor and became a full Professor in 2023.
